DM600 Advice on images

Hi all,

Have a DM600 PVR, right now loaded with the Gemini Project 4.30 image. I've got most (if not all) of the freeview channels loaded and am now at the stage of attempting to get channel decoding working. Using mgcamd 1.30 I've been unable to get the keys working correctly placing the contents of the keys directory into /usr/keys, as below:

I realize that the DM500 with the DW image seems to be the most popular configuration here. Am I missing something fundamental? Perhaps I just have to wait for the 5 post dealie to kick in and grab the RARs available here?:

Well, managed to get things working copying /usr/keys/* to /usr/scce/* using the keys directory available here:

Anyone know explicitly what's expected to be in /usr/keys and what's expected to be in /usr/scce? I'm also assuming that it's cam dependent?

I also have a DM600c and it is difficult to find info about it. I flashed the CLiURdmAUfix image, extracted these keys, copied them into the /usr/keys directory, and touch wood it seems to be working with EvoCamd 214.

Tomorrow I'll install a HD and see what happens!

Yeah, the conventional wisdom does seem to be DM500 dominated. However, with a little tinkering (which is fun anyway) it's possible to read a little bit into the published DM500 information and get things working quite nicely on a DM600 PVR. Let us know how you get on with your hard disk installation!

I found an old 3.2GB(!!!!!) IDE laptop drive and installed that. There wasn't enough space to put on a jumper to "cable select" once the IDE cable was plugged in. However, no jumper = master, and it seems to be OK like this.
It is now installed and working- yippeee!
Now ordered a 250GB IDE drive to actually have some recording space- 3.2GB is only enough for 90 minutes!
Next, I'll try some of the other things this box is allegedly capable of e.g. streaming the box output to a PC on the LAN, playing music/video files from a LAN PC.
Anything else I should be trying?

Hehe, great. The streaming stuff is quite cool I have to say, it's definitely worth a play. Which 250GB hard disk did you buy?

I used a jumper from a SCSI drive on my 250Gb (Western Digital)... perfect fit. One problem i find is that the disk does not go into standy mode and stop spinning after the timeout i specify in the hardware settings. I am using the PLi Iollite image.

250Gb! Great box but I can't remember the last time recorded anything on my Dm600 as so much stuff is repeated.

I just record all kinds a crap for my missus. A selection of kiddies films keeps the guests/nephews at bay for a while. With so much space you really don't give a toss what you have. I just log in during the day and see what could be on that I might miss while i do that work thing.

I've got an old WD 120GB disk that I might try to use with mine. I assume some people have tried to use their Dreamboxes as players for files as well?

Players? You mean just to play back straight to TV to watch your recordings? If I undertsood ya correctly then yes m8, most days, late at night when there is naff all on and i have no timer events set to record something. Can usually find something my wife has recorded to send me to sleep..

Or do you mean playing files stored elsewhere on PC or NAS?

I'd assume people use their Dreambox to watch recordings they've made with the Dreambox itself. I was more curious about people using the "File" mode to play things not recorded by the Dreambox. Whether it's on the local hard disk or available via NAS is kinda irrelevant really.

Now- can I stream recordings from the dreambox to a LAN PC e.g. using VLC player? Can I save these to PC hard disk/ save to DVD?
The manual doesn't say much about this so its back to the forums for more education.

At the very least you can copy the recorded streams from the Dreambox onto your PC via FTP and play them with VLC. Haven't played too much with the recording yet (waiting on a new hard disk to be delivered) so I can't say anything about the ability to stream recordings from the Dreambox.

I have DM500S a satellite setup and record stuff from Dm500 to my Dm600 so that I can watch it later on my Dm600.
