Dreambox 500 keeps flashing on startup screen and a black screen

    Hi there,

I'm a newbie here and just bought a few blackbox aka dreambox. I bought 3 of it for me and my friends, i tested 2 of the blackbox and it is working, however 1 isn't. It has the sg autoroll key build it. But i didn't know how to operate at the start, thus i didn't plug in the antenna cable at 1st. Den i tried scanning for the transponder but it failed. So i did a stupid thing of system restart and the blackbox is now empty and there isnt any SG channels in it. I off and tried to on again, but it just stuck and keep flashing the startup screen and a black screen. Is it spoil? Any ways to salvage it? Please help! Thanks.

Well you need to re-fllash the firmware/image. Since you have 2 boxes that are working, do a image backup with those and flash the non working one. How to do it, pls read/search the forum, there are hundreds of posts/threads regarding it.

If you own a dreambox, its always good to buy the cables to standby as the program may hang or corrupt after months of usage.

First you need to buy 1 null modem cable (around $10) and 1 usb adapter (around $25). They can be bought from Sim Lim Square Level 5, just in front of the lift. (Shop Name : M Tech Source or Bizgram)

Below is the picture of the 2 item

Female to Female Null Modem Cable (Please note don't buy the wrong one. There is also a null cable in the market that look exactly the same. So you must specify to the salesperson, you wanted a Null Modem Cable)

          Aten USB to Serial Converter

I have a USB to serial converter. Now i just need a null modem cable. But for my flickering issue at startup screen and not able to press anything on the remote. Is it a software issue or any hardware is damaged inside?

actually, nobody can give you a definite answer for that. Just reflash and you get your box working.
              Don't worry so much

I got all the tools needed to flash, but dreamup has this error code. Unable to open Com-Port, Aborting. I have connected my dreambox to the PC thru null modem cable and the Serial to USB converter.

Could be yr usb to rs232 adapter not compatible.

Use a computer with com port to do the flashing and u will likely to find out that it is yr usb adapter giving the problem. If using com port still the same, then better get yr box changed.

if your usb adapter is not the above brand, then slim chance it will work
