DM800 New DM800C HD user checking in... hewwo!

    Hey guys,

Well first of all a big hello to the forum... I did a LOT of Googling for a decent community before settling here, and I expect to go from noob status to "able to hold his own" in not too many decades based on all the good info here! Anyway I am based in Zurich, Switzerland, and have just purchased a Dreambox DM800C HD based on the reccommendation of my Linux-crazed techie friend who has a lower spec model, and am looking to get it setup asap so I can have my dose of corrie, hollyoaks and eastenders back now that i've cancelled my cablecom subscription!

I won't be able to start doing this in-depth until Monday (I'm in a new apartment and haven't got a TV yet, waiting for the Panasonic G15 plasma to be released) so before I pull my sleeves up and get stuck in i'm just wondering the following:

    1) What is currently the best image for the 800C HD, and is it specifically dependant on what country you're in as to what image you download?

    2) Am I right in assuming a "typical" Cat5 ethernet cable won't do for connecting the DB to the PC... it has to be a specific crossover cable? Not a problem as I can pick one up from work, but haven't got one at home.

    3) Are there any good links or guides other than the stickies above, either on this forum orotherwise, and barring the user manual, that provide some good info and tips for using this box, and covers anything I might run into problems-wise?

    4) Am I right in assuming that by using a wireless bridge adapter that you can theoretically turn the DB into a Wireless HD streaming device that could theoretically stream content to any wireless device in the apartment?

    5) Where can you buy a DVB-S satellite tuner for the 800C HD? I tried Googling but can't find any additional modules for this particular box... am I being blind? ALso is there ANY way to run a DVB-C and a DVB-S tuner at the same time or it it only 1 per box, period?

    6) ANy other tips or cool things that you can do with it that i'm not aware of... any anyone got any cool setups in their house that may give me some ideas for the future?

Really looking forward to getting this up and running, and am planning to have it running into a Netgear ReadyNAS with 4TB of storage so that when I do finally sort my house out, it will be a media paradise.

Thanks in advance guys, and nice to meet you all... virtually.

Hope there are more HD cable channels than there are here in the UK. (i.e. one)

One per box. DM8000 is the multi-tuner HD box.

corrie, hollyoaks and eastenders.. .. These are the kind of programs i try and avoid at all costs

nabilosat seems to be the best image for satellite but i found it unstable for cable, try gemini, pli or LT images for cable.

You can purchase a sat tuner for your Dm800 from Mark at satstore.co.uk.. but can't use both together as alexh has already mentioned

There is lots of cool things you can do with dm800 including wireless streaming etc

For that price it should be. Roughly 5x the price of a DM500C clone?

Heh trust me mate, when you move to another country these programs are essential to retain some sense of normality when you get a bit homesick.

With regards to the DVB-S tuner I can buy seperately... I can't see one for the 800C HD on that site... I take it the tuners are universal and can be used between the boxes? Is there any other places that sell them that ship Europe-wide?

Also, I take it that the freesat tuner HAS to be in the box, and that if it's in the TV then it doesn't matter?

heh, how long did it take you to learn mate?

                    Guys,

Which image is the best and most stable for the DM800C HD please? I need one with the camd3 integrated as the standard image that comes with the box doesn't allow me to manually install plug-ins at the moment... I can only seem to search for the ones that the online plkug-in searcher gives me?

put nabilosat black hole v10 on ,then from the addons menu download cccam2.1.1 straight to the box this is the latest or cccam2.1.1 plus config
unless you have your own config file
then download the latest key from the addons that should have the camd3 in it
                        dm800-s=1.1 m triax motorised dish=titanium twin lnb

I don't want to contradict you m8 but have you tried nabilosat on cable??
Designed for Sat it seems..excellent graphics but very unstable (for cable), I found gemini, Pli, or LT images a much better option..
                            Just my opinion
