    Dreambox IP

I was following the newbie directions about setting up the 5oo. Everything went well up to the point of Ftping. I cannot get the IP address for my dreambox. Are they any other ways of getting this IP address so I can use FlashXP so I can import the keys and rom? I am not sure what I am doing wrong to get the IP address. Please help

Additionally, I can't navigate into Menu, setup etc on the dreambox in order to find the IP address using the guide, how do I do this?

I want to add that I am in Barbados so I hope that this will work for me.

what image is installed on it currently?

when it's connected to the TV, press 'Menu'.

The dk_v1.1.img image that I downloaded through the guide.
When I connect it to the TV and press menu nothing happens.

are you connecting thru a router (normal patch lead) or directly using a cross-over patch lead?

I think this is where I might be messing up because I am not sure exactly how to answer your question because I am not sure.
I have the null modem cord connected to the box and PC, a video rca cable connected to the box and tv and the power is turned on. I have no other cables except the standard ethernet cable which is being used right now to connect me to the internet through the computer.

if you connect your box to the router - you will need another standard network cable.
if you connect your box directly to your PC - you will need a cross over network lead.

FTP only works via the network, null modem won't work.

So if I unplug the ethernet cable from the computer and plug it into the box would that work? If it would work what would be my steps from there. I know I would lose internet connectivity for the computer. I may be missing something so please bear with me.

IF the box is set up for DHCP, it should get an IP from the router after a reboot. However, you won't be able to access the network/dreambox.

when the box reboots - do u get anything on the screen? u should see a boot screen on the TV if connected properly.

                      Sorry but I am lost.
Do I have to hook up the box to the antenna cable? It is not presently connected but even when I tried it earlier I got nothing on the tv screen.
When I reboot I dont get anything coming up on the tv srceen either.
In order to connect to the box via ftp I need an IP address and that is where I am stuck.

you would still see the DK1.1 boot screen as it reboots AND the menu (when u press the menu button) if it was connected to the TV - this way you could check what the current IP was in the expert settings menu. No need for the antenna cable yet.

if you only have 1 network cable ( a standard network cable) you'll either need to buy 1 more standard network cable (to connect the box to the router) OR 1 cross over network cable ( to connect the box directly to the PC)

I am not getting any boot screen and I even went through the process again. Is there any other image files that I can use to see if they will work. I heard of pli or something like that?
