    what image are u using?

if you're connecting it to your router, check if the box is set to DHCP. retart the network/box and it should get an IP address.

if your putting a new image on the box you use a program called dreamup with a null modem cable from pc to box.
it you want to ftp files over to box you need a crossover cable from your pc to the box but uou need to know the ip of the box.
to find the ip of the box use your remote point it at the box with your box on and tv on so you can see what you are doing, and press menu then go to setup and press okthen go to expert setup and press ok, go to communication setup press ok and there is your box ip on the top line.
hope this explains a bit more to you.

as far as i know you need a crossover cable but if you go to your pc store you can get a crossover adapter which you plug onto the end of your ethernet cable. it costs 2-3 quid.

got it in one m8. its cheaper than getting a whole new crossover cable. the adapter just crosses over the wires in the connections.

As I see from here I this his ethernet in the dreambox is faulty. Try to see is there a light in the box went you plug in the ethernet or not. If no then is faulty. Sorry to say that cause I have that problem before. Solution is to get a new one.

You can detect the IP address if toy know the ranges of the DHCP is set to and what is the next one after you PC which might be 192.168.x.3 if your PC is 2 and the router is 1 and nothing else is connected via the router.
