Thanks for reply. I have probably scanned eight times with different images or keys etc and don't have ANY channels. Won't do any harm to try again though

      600c probably the best box...

600c probably the best box because at least you can change the plug in tuner if its faulty... or may be possible to change tuner in 500c but don't know.
Just waiting for a CLONE box hope it doesn't have same issue's.

Is there a basic road I should be taking to establish why I am not getting free to air channels. Just guessing here but maybe factory reset followed by stable image upload then scan?
        Clutching at straws now!

Yep. I was afraid of that. Is there a test I can do?
Here's what I'd do as a baseline so you can check to see if you've got a ****ed tuner:
        1. Perform Devilfish's double flash erase voodoo (essentially erase your flash twice in Dreamup)
        2. Grab an image of your choice and flash it
        3. Grab the cables.xml from the downloads area (Digital Kaos - Downloads - Cables.xml file for the UK and Ireland) and FTP it up to the box
        4. Select the correct symbol rate for a transponder scan and see what SNR you're getting

If you're savvy enough to get into the realm of telnetting into your box: after (4) shell in and run "dmesg" to see if you've got anything interesting in the log that might give you an idea as to what's going on.

This might be a daft question but are you sure you have connected the cable feed to the correct connector on the back of the box?

Does your box have F connectors or TV aerial type or like mine one of each?

The services and bouquets files will have the channels already tuned in. If you upload these and can't get any FTA channels to work then you know the problem is with your tuner or cable feed (and not with the options you're using to tune in the channels).

You could check the cable feed by trying a different box that you know is working

I think I should get to step 4. Then My know - how comes to a dead stop. How do I select the correct symbol rate for a transponder scan?

Thanks. Not a daft question but the feed is in the correct place. Wish it had been that easy

I know for certain that the feed is OK as it is feeding my Nokia DBox right now. I will try your suggestion but I fear I have been sold a pup. I will keep you posted thanks

              Mr Smirnoff,

Excuse daft question but I flashed a friend's dreambox last week and it is working perfectly. Can I completely erase my box and replace with a complete copy of his? Or do I just back up his image and flash it to this one with the dodgy tuner?
I suppose that will prove the tuner works or doesn't

              thanks

First can I say a big thank you for all your suggestions and I hope you have not run out of patience.
Looks like I have finally killed it. Could not get Dreamup to talk to it. Used Flash Wizard Pro. After loading several images and still not getting any transponders at at all, it hung up after 90 per cent of an image upload. Started again and re-flashed DK image which seemed successful except it did not reboot. Unplugged and replugged then nothing. No signal and no image. Can't even reach it through ftp so I suppose the ip has changed.
Any suggestion please (yes it is getting closer to the bin)

you could backup your friends box with dreamup ,then flash it to your box

then when dreamup should ask you to flash erase click yes this should delete any settings
if you think something gone wrong always use dreamup to get back on track
hope your box works in the end but dosent sound good

Couldn't get Dreamup to speak to the box. Tried two versions of the programme and when I set the ip 's it told me to connect the box. It Didn't see it.
I have now all but given up as the box does not boot up now (possibly due to an image flash only loading to 90%)
Can not get the new ip address to reach it with ftp or anything else
                  Sick!!!

Have you got a null modem cable mate, its the failsafe backup that always works when the ip side does not wanna play ball. You will need a serial port on your puter or a USB to serial converter cable to connect the null modem cable etc..

You dont need to set ip's when using dreamup,it'll probably recover with a null and dreamup.
Checkout the RED stickies massive amount of info and effort been put into them.

After flashing your friend's image onto your box, try your box in your friend's house. You know your mate's cable feed works with a dreambox, so this will confirm if the problem is with your box or cable feed (your feed may be too weak for a dreambox, but just strong enough for a dbox)

I flashed the mate's Dreambox in my house using my feed so I am pretty sure that is not the problem. Is there any way then I can access this dead box with a RJ45 crossover cable?
If I thought I could cure it I would go out and buy a serial cable tomorrow but I am reluctant now to throw good money after bad

Just buy a Null Modem cable there only a couple of quid from a well known auction site or maplins then you can connect via ftp and Null @ the same time using Dream-up and if the ftp is working you will flash your image over in around 20-30 seconds ! you should of flashed a new box with this method because it is full proof, also some images do request you flash via dream-up and NOT flash wizard ! .

                            Hope this helps.
