Dream Box 600

Hi, i wonder if anyone could help me with some Dreambox 600 questions.

I know this is my first post however i have searched the forums and i am a little confused.

I had a Virgin box a Pace 4100 however this is broken and i need an alternative and have been advised to get a Dream Box 600PVR

Can any advise if this is a decent model.

Also do you need to do anything with these boxes like cut talkback or is it just a case of loading an image and finding the correct keys.

My other question is when i search for images there are all different types and probably about 50 off them, how do you know which one best suits you.

I am in a C&W area.

There are several images for the dreambox but there is no such thing as talkback. I use the Pli Iolite image on my dreambox just google for it and you should find several sites. You will need to flash an image across to your box, have read of the stickes and you should be fine. Once you have flashed the image you will need to copy certainfiles to your box have a look at the link below;

While we are taking about Pli, is it safe on a cloned 500? I have read their forum and found a post about clones where they say they don't support them.

I use Pli on my 7025 and am interested in finding a good image that can be used on all 3 of my cable boxes, 7025, 600 and 500.

on my dm7025 i have a internalhdd with cf card with barryallen where i have about 5 images like a multiboot when you restart the box you can chose witch one you like

Why are you going for the 600 mate, do yuo specifically need PVR functions?

If not then there are lots of cheaper alternatives, eg DM500 for around ?40

if l knew before l bought the 600 that mounting a 500 to record to a pc was so easy l would never of got it , the harddrive never gets used

I have a clone Dm500 and an original Dm600 and the Pli image works fine on both of the boxes.

Yje Pli team may n ot support the clones but they also say it is not their place to destroy the clones.

I bought a Cable PVR box a few years ago - the illfated Replaybox.

In all honesty I used it's PVR about....err.....once to test it and never again!

I have Dm600 and as you said it is not very often i use the pvr but I have mounted the Dm600 hdd on the DM500 so i can record to one of my boxes. I have however found the Dm500 to be inadequate compared to the Dm600 because it has niggly problems, on average I find i have to flash my Dm500 every other month for one reason or another. I flashed it this morning because it lost it cams and nothing i could do could get it back so in the end I just reflashed.

Man, sounds like you have a dodgy 500.

I flash my box fairly frequently but only because I'm a sad barsteward who enjoys testing new images.

However my dad has had the same old shitty image on his DM500 for nearly 2 years, all I've ever needed to do to his was the odd channel scan to pick up new channels and recently I had to add the new EMU fix.

Which is the backup of? I might be interested in trying it. I can set up non cable images ok usually though. Its even easier on the 600, it does not need the cables.xml file.
