    DM500 IR receiver broken :(

I have a Dream Box DM500 and the infrared receiver inside the box dose not seem to work. I have look through the RS catalogue and they seem to sell many types. Dose anyone know what type of IR receiver (diode/LED) these boxes have in side them? If so where can I get one?

Have you opened the box? I had the same thing happen to mine, cracked it open and found the flat cable between the main board and the sensor board had come loose.

This has also happened to me before. Do you see any green or red leds on the front or is it just blank?

yeah, this has happened to me a few times. if you've not opened it up, open it up might be as simple as re-plugging in the cable.

alternatively, if you bought from a 'reputable supplier' then they might replace that particualr module, thus saving on the postage costs.

I have the same problem at the moment with a new box I just got. I'm in talks with the supplier at the moment to get the board replaced. With mine it just about works if the remote is about 6in from the box, it is definately the infra red detector board as I have swapped it with one from my other box. If anyone knows which detector is used on the board I would be interested to find out as well.

I have exactly the same fault on a box I received today. I bought the box from a trader in China through the ioffer website.
Anyone have any ideas on where to get spare parts from??

sometimes is due to hairline crack on the IDC connector solder

the power button on my box is stuck would that cause a problem with the sensor not working properly..??

do these remotes work on IR or RF..?

take a picture of the receiver inside the box and post it on a forum relative to the subject matter...... I'm sure someone in the know can tell you what it is and you can find a replacement.

                            DM500 IR RECIEVER BROKEN

                            HI

have you tried a universal remote for dreambox recievers all types
They usually have intructions how to put in codes etc
or you could order from the Dreambox company who makes the recievers
I understand the software is Linux also i've used linux typing this message to you
                            hope this helps

as far as i can tell the problem is with his receiver not his transmitter i.e the bit in the box
