if your theory was correct then that would mean a few weeks/month ago that hundreds if not thousands of people were effected with a sudden signal issue, and therefore this would mean that virgin for some reason fluctuated the signal level all over the uk, and then people lost some channels, seems strange, but not Impossible, the very strange thing is though that some people can simply do a scan and get the channels back and some cant, its weird.
I also have this problem, i have a couple of boosters that work good, but as of yet i have not even tried them for this issue, cant be botherd as the channels i have missing are ones that i dont care about, but i will get round to it at some point, .
Just buy any plug in electric tv aerial signal booster mate, MAKE sure it have a variable gain control so that you can turn the signal up n down, they aint that expensive, maybe 20quid or something like that, been years since i bought mines, and they do work very very well if you have a weak signal on your dreambox, i am proof of that.
I have bought a plug in booster but it seems to make all my channels disappear so this has not worked... I thought that ordinary boosters could not work because they are in a different frequency range to TW signal, maybe I'm wrong... Yes I am in a TW area and I believe that when they changed the channels a few weeks ago the frequencies changed and some frequencies are stronger than others depending on the characteristics of the line and also climate etc....I seem to have always had signal issues with my box with some channels freezing up now and then and some channels not even there... like I have never been able to get S**1 and 2&3 being bad signal...

Just a thought...

ah i thought so.
depends on where you put the booster mate, you need the booster right at the point where the tv feed comes into the house from outside if possible, you dont want it away on the end of the cable if you have a run of cable in the house, long bits of cable gather interfierence, and therefore if you put the booster at the wrong end it will also boost the interfierence, so make sure the booster is as close to the cable coming into the house as possible (the one that goes to your tv box).
apart from that, if your booster has a gain control like i said previously, you cant always turn it up full, sometime half way up or 3/4 of way up is ok, but sometimes up full makes it even worse, and then theres another problem, if your signal was too strong, thats as bad as too weak, but ive not really heard of signals being too strong before, easy way to tell is stick you box on a channel that is perfect and never breaks up, and look at the signal levels, the ber and snr etc, and then post back with details, remember though, follow what i said above or you will make things worse.

OK I'll give it a go later as I have to go out for a bit.... Thanks I'll keep you posted... PS have you tried this already... I may be barking up the wrong tree... Also I used to have an Attenuator on my line but I took it out when I put a splitter on because my signal was messed up after putting another signal to my bedroom... This may suggest it being too strong also...

OK a few things to try... ill let you know...
attenuator or anything on the line will degrade the signal, for each split you have it drops a good bit, but if you have splits with tvs and modems connected then you need a different type of booster, modem signal booster is different, so if your doing that then that will cause problems, you need to come back later and tell me what you have connected from where the cables actually comes into the house to where it evetually ends, speak to you later.
well the plot thickens... Turns out I have a book shelf in the way of my incoming VM junction box and am unable to move it as I have had new windows put in and the new window ledge will not get past it...."great planning" i hear you say so I am stuck...!!! unable to get a booster before any splitters and such.... What now...

I do have modems and tv's connected... what type of booster do I need...
Good evening. Does anyone know which channels are lost with the change over? is it just the sports, movies and ppv channels? what about the discovery and sky1,2,3?
