Lost channels on dreambox 500c (virgin med)

I do have modems and tv's connected... what type of booster do I need...

well the plot thickens... Turns out I have a book shelf in the way of my incoming VM junction box and am unable to move it as I have had new windows put in and the new window ledge will not get past it...."great planning" i hear you say so I am stuck...!!! unable to get a booster before any splitters and such.... What now...

well in that case mate, if your modem is working fine and i guess it is, then you dont need one for that, but you can put one on the tv feed, if at all possible try and connect the boost straight after the splitter, you know like splitter-boooster-------------dreambox, always remember that longer pieces of cable cause more interfierence on the line, so thers not much point in boosting all the noise, so you put the booster as close to the splitter as you can if possible, if its not possible then you'll just need to do what you can with what you got, should still be ok if you just dont have big crazy massive long stretch''s of cable, , and your modem/s will be on the other feed from the splitter i guess, so they should be fine, but if they are on the same feed as the tv feed then you need a slightly different type of booster that will do the dreambox and the modems signal, this is the one i have for doing both >>>>

(thats called an "one for all" booster with variable gain control)

Its a real pity you cant get that yellow one and put it before the splitter, that would be a huge benefit as compared to after the splitter

remember whatever you do, dont jump in feet first and wack the booster up full blast, thats sometimes makes things worse, you need to play with it and check the signals on channels, ber and snr levels etc etc.

Gah! My family on the phone crying to me about lost channels, they're in Southend-on-Sea and I'm in Plymouth so there's nothing I can do.

Asked them to do a brute scan and nothings happened they just have Channels 1-5, everything fine up this end though.

Is Southend an N3 area now?

That was my mistake, brother just told me they do actually have all the free to air channels ala E4 etc. which is something!

Any tips on what to do to get channels back? He brute scanned when it went down a week ago, would it be worth trying again now with a restart?

Yeah he brute scanned then done a factory reset, does that screw the box up then? (I assumed the keys would remain intact)

He can barely download a torrent let along flash a box they'll have to wait until easter for me to do it !

all my channels went last night just after midnight,im in grimsby.
tried a few ewscans,bruteforce,6887 and nothing at the min,i mate originally set mine up for me so im abit lost what to do.
kids are going to slaughter me ,any ideas chaps?

just done another rescan on 6887 and then rebooted,got most channels back but no movies,some channels appear 4 or 5 times,loads of reginal ones.

correct me if i am wrong, you scanned the 6952 frequency which is or was telewest, i am guessing your area used to be run by telewest until the ntl/virgin takeover ? correct ?

If not, are you in a pure ntl area, pure ntl is an area that has always been owned by ntl until virgin took over.

OK looks like I figured out a way around the issue.... It's very long winded and took me hours to do but I am sure someone can write a fix for this....

What I did was do an automatic transponder scan for every TW location in the list of DK1.1 image.... started from A and worked thru to Z....

Not only did all my channels come back I got a load of channels I never had....

I cannot figure out why a bruteforce scan did not pick up all the channels but I'm sure someone will have the brain power to figure it out...

Also if someone can rewrite the location's list I have all the channels in the liverpool area...

any questions just put it on this post...

I'll try without the images first...

OK in the DK 1.1 image.... when you do an automatic transponder scan you have locations... e.g Liverpool, Abbeydale, Acton-London etc... well what I done was to go into everyone starting with Barnes (because this was the first (TW) one...), As I live in an ex TW area I just went thru all the TW locations.

So I started with Barnes then Barnsley, Basildon, Bath etc.... Scanned each one individually....

Everytime I found more TV channels.... so I just kept on going untill I reached Woodgreen...

This resolved the matter of the channels and found some extra channels.... Not sure why the bruteforce scan did not pick up these channels...

I dont think I got all the ~~~~ channels tho and the Box office channels but I'm sure someone will have and share those....

If you need more explination I will do some screen shots tomorrow if needed... It's been a long day
