Possible problem with Linux Blackbox 500c - need help

    Hi folks,

I'm having a problem here with a new Linux Blackbox 500C and thought i'd pass it through the board before contacting the reseller (got the box through the advertised link, using the discount code)

I have had a genuine DM500C for over a year and had no problems at all. It was recently running the image DK1.1 without any issues.

I have received the Blackbox this week and have flashed it with DK1.1 (arrived flashed with DK1.0 FTA). It has been working fine for a few days, then today I noticed that ALL the channels were appearing mangled (image gets mangled by rather large squares, quite often green - visually similar to VLC getting issues while steaming from a Dreambox onto slower computers, for those who know what I mean). The sound also gets corrupted, to a point where you don't hear a thing anymore.
I did unplug the box for a bit and after a few hours, plugged it back and everything was working fine, but after a few minutes powered on, it's starting to display a mangled image on all channels once again. I think it gradually gets worse until I unplug it again then let it cool down...

    Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance for your help,
    Oxyd

The box sounds faulty with a hardware fault, but I would reflash or change the image to make sure.

Thanks mate. What other image would you recommend? Do you think DK1.0 would do, or would I have to go for a completely different flavour (I'm thinking Digital Worldz 2.1)?

        Hi
Might be worth putting the original FTA image back on in case it is faulty and has to go back, did you have this problem when the FTA software was on it?

Try again with DK image first just download a fresh one, if not the yes the DW image is a goodun And as said if it has to go back put original image back on.

            FTA was from image DK1.0
I flashed it with DK1.1 straight away so don't know...Will try.

I used to be on DW forum before here. Having Devilfish releasing DK image, I wouldn't be surprised if both images have the same internals

Could be caused by tuners resulting in corrupted MPEG streams. Take a look at the SNR value on a channel before, during and after breakup. It should be around the 96% mark or higher. Perhaps switch off FastZap (if it is not already) see if that helps.

Could be a heat tolerance on one of the SDRAM chips due to bad soldering. The box heats up, the metal expands, contact is intermittant, MPEG decoder reads back dodgy data... corrupted screen.
