DM500 vlc player

can`t see the vlc plugin in addons in dk1 image,tryed to instal it manualy-no joy.
please help

is it VLC frontend your trying to install? to play movies, *.avi (like moveplayer)?

If so, unpack the files from Digital Kaos you will only need vlcf, you don't need the movieplayer, copy the update folder to /var/tmp.

Telnet to box & login (see sticky if your unsure how to do this!)

copy this... run it in telnet.

mv -f /tmp/update/vlcf.xml /var/tuxbox/config/vlcf.xml
cp -rf /tmp/update/vlcf.* /var/tuxbox/plugins/
cp -rf /tmp/update/vlcf/ /var/tuxbox/config/enigma/pictures
cp -rf /tmp/update/del_vlcf.sh /var/uninstall/
chmod 755 /var/plugins/tuxbox/vlcf.so
chmod 755 /var/uninstall/del_vlcf.sh
rm -rf /tmp/update/*
sleep 1
wget -O /dev/null "http://root@localhost/cgi-bin/xmessage?timeout=-1&caption=VLCF-Konfiguration&icon=1&body=VLCF-XML%20bitte%20anpassen!"&
exit;

press enter.

Now you will need to edit the vlcf.xml file to your server IP
you will find the file here -> /var/tuxbox/config/vlcf.xml

this is what you will see (Example)

Edit the blue parts only to your server IP and DVD drive! unless you have morethan one server!

yellow - you should place something like c:/movies

save.

Presto everything should be OK.

thanks mate,can this be done with Flashfxp? as i never used telnet before also the link u r giving for the files from DK not working? I have downloaded VLC Plugin for Dreambox from the downloads menu if thats what u ment?

to telnet is very very easy.

click START > RUN and type Telnet {your box IP adress}
Example:- telnet 192.168.0.1

A command window will appear, enter username --->root and password ----> dreambox.

you are now in a telenet window.

VLC Player Add on to DM500c

Hi. I have followed you excellent instructions to the letter...at least I hope so!! I am trying to stream mpeg2 movies to the DM500c which I have saved onto my PC using Ngrab. However when I go to Plugins (Yellow button .. Manager Suite.. Addon Manager ..Server DK Addons .. Plugins) I get a list:

Total Football
Evocamd2-GBox
.
.
DreamNetCast


There is no sign of the VLC plugin.

Am I looking in the right place?

I have found the VLC Plugin!! All I had to do was hold down the Blue button on the remote. However I am getting a message "No connection to VLC server available". There is also a message at the bottom of the screen " Make sure VLC is started on the PC" and the check the start path. I have checked the VLCF xml file and have set the IP and path to 192.168.1.2 (IP of PC) & I:/RECORDINGS respectively. The I: is an NDAS drive which appears as I: on the PC. I can watch the recordings (created using Ngrab) on the I: drive using VLC on the PC. I assume the VLS plug in on the Dreambox will allow me to watch these recordings on the Dreambox. Does the recording need to be playing on the PC? I have tried this but it made no difference. Any additional advice would be most welcome.

Any help would be much appreciated.

On the dreambox web interface, make sure the stream settings are updated with the IP address of your PC.

When streaming movies to the dreambox from my PC using the VLCF front end and the above instructions, I get picture but no sound...

On the PC I can see from the statistics that both video and audio gets streamed ok. The audio codec is mpga, which I think is correct.

is there a way to see what is happening with the stream at the dreambox itself?

I'm using VLC player 0.9.2. Maybe I should try an older version?? Or is there something else I should look at?

Hmmm... VLC 0.8.6f does not work either (neither does 0.9.6 for that matter).

So could it be a configuration problem with the VLCF?

Using Vista premium.

The .avi starts playing on the dreambox, but after about a minute it stops.

Is there any fix for this.
