    A suggestion for the admins.

Would it be possible to have a forum for "Named And Shamed" ? Or "Rogue Traders" ?
If so i would like to put forward the first nomination for a dodgy dealer.
Last week my Dreambox remote kicked the bucket, don't know why,it just stopped working. After trawling the net,as you do,i found the cheapest available (including p+p).It was from a web site called Dreambox Shopping.
The link to their site is DreamBox 500 Remote Control for DreamBox DM500 (DM500C/DM500S)
From reading other forum posts i believe they have been mentioned before, but not for the reason i mention them.
After ordering the remote i waited, and waited, and waited.Several emails were sent to them, not one reply.Neither was there any answer on the phone. At present i am on day 12 waiting for said item to be delivered, unable to watch my beloved Dreambox (unless i want to watch the channel it was last on).Wishing evil nasties to befall the owner of the said site, but not before my remote is delivered.

So to sum up - - - (scored out of 5)
    Customer care -- 0
    Response to queries - - 0
    Prices - - 5
    Delivery time - - 0

My advice, steer clear of this "retailer".We consumers should vote with our custom,i for one will never recommend this "retailer" to anyone, and hereby Name And Shame them for the shoddy customer service they give.
Stand up and be shot Dreambox Shopping.

    Sorry to hear that mate.

Until you get a new remote (If you know the ip address of the box) just rig the box up to your pc with crossover cable and change channels using enigma web interface remote.

2 Where would i get enigma web interface remote ? (i assume it's software) ?
The crossover cable i do have.

I don't think there's any need for a section like that.

mate,,, know sounds mabie a bit daft, but have you tried reflashing the box?
dm500 remotes are a pain sometimes
try a reflash see if remote miraculously makes a recovery.
backup your services with dreambox edit ( hopefully your box on DHCP and you can get ip from router ) before hand so you can get services back after reflash so you can at least still use web interface to change channel
          boom!

Also hold the end up to a cameraphone or digital camera and press a button if you see flashing it's working and satmans advice is probably the best

This might sound even dafter , but if your using the batteries that came with the remote, chances are is that they already were on their way out.

Try different batteries m8, also the Dreamboxes need the remote control to be pointed at a certain angle to pick up the censor, not like your TV remote that can work from anywhere in the room.
It is a 500 ? I know on the 600 it has a button on the remote for TV and if pressed , you cant use it for the dreambox until you press the STB button.

Try what satman says and re flash your box if your confident the batteries are ok.

Batteries are fine,i had to supply them as they were not included with the box.I tried the camera trick to test the remote and it is completely dead no matter what batteries are installed in it.So i doubt that re-flashing will do any good. Thanks for the suggestions though.

your router will be something like 192.168.1.1,
so type in to the address bar of a web page
192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.3 , .4 etc, when you hit the right number, a username and password box will appear type in root as the username and dreambox as the password.
you will then be into the web interface.
a pain i know, but it looks like your only way mate
