            OK !
Got my mate to call round with his remote and changed the ip to 192.168.1.7
He had to leave as he was going out and he took the remote back with him so i have no more use of a remote until tomorrow.Tried to connect again and as usual nothing.I'm begining to think the box is telling me to have an early night tonight .
Sorry to the admins for this post taking up so much server space.

click on start, programmes, then run, it might be in accessorys.

a little black box will appear.

              type in

              ping 192.168.1.7

then see what happens, post the result

edit , in XP run might be there when you click on start, i am using vista, and cant remember

I had to execute the ping command in a command window in xp.The result is as follows - -'ping 192.168.1.7' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable programme or batch file.
Strange ! I can ping my router no problem.I'm picking up a new cable tomorrow as i'm begining to think this one may have had it.
Just tried the ping again and each packet timed out !!!

I think it may be an early night for me - this is doing my head in big time (been at it since 10-30)
Tried the above suggestion and nothing.I reckon i'll give it a rest for tonight and try again tomorrow when i get a new cable as i think mine may be kaput.

Somebody here may have a non working Receiver and they might have the remote to spare off to you.

Checked the crossover cable carefully and noticed a nick in the outer shileding.A closer inspection revealed that one of the wire strands had been cut,AH HA !!! i thought. So this morning off to argos i went, purchased new cable, wired everything up and held my breath in anticipation --- NOTHING !!! Flash attempts to connect for about 1 second then says connection refused.Dcc can't find my box at all.I have even tried using my sons laptop, thinking the socket on mine could be faulty, but nope it doesn't work on his either.I'm getting close to the stage of my box.

well i hope it sorts it m8 if so you should be up and running straight away i thought it was a cable fault when you said it connected and disconnected (i thought you may even of had the wrong one) when using flashxp so hopefully that sorts it
