The tick means your router assigns the ip address by unticking it means you assign the ip address. By unticking and then assigning the ip address and then ticking it undoes what you did earlier.

I have never personally done (or heard) this perhaps someone else can suggest a way to do this. Given you are having problems and you seem to have all the gear to ftp via your pc that would be my recommendation. It will only take 2 minutes to try?

              Get DCC....

your router adress is the one you gave..198.162.0.1....your laptop is probably 198.162.0.2.....go in communication settings on the dbox and setup the address at the top to 198.162.0.5...then the rest under it to the address of your laptop (not router).

open dcc ...it has a network search, or use manual in the settings to highlight your laptop address and dbox address....should connect.

now use the same settings for whatever software you want to ftp.

                lets start again

can you ping the dbox/dreambox from your PC

if yes, then you have a valid network connection and problem may lie with the FTP client

if no then I would uncheck any firewalls you may have on your laptop incase the firewall is blocking any IP traffic

From the information you have given, the dbox/dm and laptop are on the same subnet (255.255.255.0)
