Ho have you connected everything...I go Box to Router with ethernet and then wireless connect via ftp to Box? works for me

Double check the ip address and that DHCP is enabled in the communication set up page.

Your not being thick at all mate, I have never connected straight to box with pc using ethernet so I dont know that way only what i have read... must try it really to see if i can

I added to my reply above about the DHCP being enabled...maybe thats the why it wont connect.

                means - File Transfer Protocol

Basically its when you transfer files from on place to another...in this case your pc to the Dbox... usually you use a program like flashxp ...theres loads of them out there...Once its connected and open you have two windows ...one for each item you are connected to and then you select what ever you want to move from one to the other and either upload or download it.

                    Router - DB with ethernet
Then i use the pc to wireless connect to Db usinga FTP ..I use one called Transmit but if you go through the red stickie guides theres others in there that can be downloaded and used.

Yeah you've changed the wires to how you had it. I suggested ticking the DHCP if you were going straight from Box - PC as thast how you had it ..

No worries as you have the box connected to router.

Fire up your pc and ftp program and connect that way..

                        ip address

                        userid:root
                        password: dreambox

Got to pop out , hopefully you will get connected, or someone else will be along to help

Do you know your router ip address? This is the address that you put in your browser to access the web interface (to set up wireless, etc.). Put the router ip address in the default gateway section of the network settings page, enable DHCP, save and reboot the box. Now go back into the network settings page and see what ip address the router has assigned the dreambox. Use this ip address in your ftp program to connect.
