delete roms in var/keys folder 10/11,overwrite rom7 all will be sweet

If the screen is blank and he cant get anything using the remote, then replacing the roms wont make a difference.

flashed new image

No just flp new image to var/tmp then on remote press dbox button then go to service press on that then go to update/back up/restore press ok then press on flash read image then press on write one partition then press on flash without bootloader then hi-lite image press ok when flash as finished then press red button the box will reboot

Have flashed new image onto box using IFA, X-over cable & Null modem cable. LCD on DBOX now says

FERTIG !

You need to flash your box with a uk image it sounds like the image you have is german as fertig is german for finished

used the commando 10 image, could the IFA be the problem, as the link to the site from the downloads area takes you to a german version, it does not clearly show a english version.

BOX SEMED TO FLASH WITH THE ENGLISH IFA FROM DOWNLOAD AREA (ALTHOUGH WHEN I OPENED THE IFA AN ERROR MESSAGE CAME UP)
PLUGGED BOX BACK INTO TV & CONNECTED EVERYTHING UP, SWITCHED ON, COMMANDO 10 IMAGE CAME ON TV, THEN BLANK SCREEN WITH FLASHING CURSER, NOTHING ELSE

It sounds like it did not flash properly.
What did the error message say?
Try and flash again it will say on the lcd flash finished when it is complete it can take 5 to 10mins

does the box fully boot up, e.g you get bbc1 or any other channel on the lcd. i also might be worth trying to flash another image other than the commando one
