Old dbox2 brought out of the cupboard! Help needed!

    Hi!
Started to post this in the "new user" section, but guess it is more appropriate here, so apologies if i'm double posting.

Got a Nokia Dbox2 in 2005, had trouble flashing it, got a friend to do it for me in the end. Worked great. Left it at parents house, moved away.

    2009.
Managed to get dbox back! All the channels no longer exist/have probably been moved, except bbc1 + 2, and maybe itv1.

Its already got 2005 Sportster image on it.
Remote control has been lost (ordered new one from Ebay! Should arrive monday)

So where do I go from here? I have Crossover cable albeit without a null modem cable (not essential from what I have been reading about all day!)

Do I need to reflash with a new Neutrino style image (as no-one mentions Sportster anywhere anymore) or can i just replace the boutiques.xml, services, autoroll.key with new ones?
I've been out of it for so long and not been following the scene, I seem to have missed what "nagrarom7.bin" is. Is it a replacement for autoroll.key?

Temporarily unable to FTP till I suss out its IP address (when i get the remote and find it thru the menus) although apparently i don't need it with IFA..

Hey at least on the plus side; in 2009- the flashing software is finally in English!

    Thanks in advance!

You won't need to reflash. You can just ftp to the box and update the /var/keys folder with the up to date files.
There was a rapidshare link on here for them but I can't seem to find it. I'll search for a bit longer and if I can't find it a new one might have to appear.

edit: read this thread - http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f35/keys-7756/

The IP address could have been changed on some images the IP address comes up on the startup screen I cannot remember if it does on that version of sportster and now there is alot more to read to help you remember what to do after you have updated the files scan for services because they change

Unfortunately no IP showing on boot, so will have to wait till shiny new Remote Control shows up!
        Thanks for the advice guys.
Is the Blade Quad image worth having or Commando?
I will mostly be watching TV from it, but if given the option of streaming video from pc, that would be awesome. Don't really know how these 2 compare, but are the most spoken about on here.
Seeing as I couldnt flash it 4 years ago, am a bit warey of trying again and getting stuck half flashed and unable to boot.. So maybe just stay with trusty old Sportster..

If you have a router; connect it to that and look in the router "attached devices" tab. This will tell you all the devices hooked up and will give the dbox ip.

            Bizarrely, it doesn't show up....
I've tried it with patch cable and cross over. Have hit refresh, doesn't show up. Connected wirelessly to router via psp, hit refresh, and that shows. So it is showing up to date connections. Does the dbox have to be in standby before plugging it in or anything silly?

Try plugging in the cable before you power up the box. This is because you cannot refresh the network from the menu so better to have it in when it boots so it see's it.

We all have problems but we get there in the end if you are not sure get the sportster working first it will give you all the channels and look into it more to see what you want to use the box for, the best thing to do is read about it and make sure first

Yeah, I'm just gonna have to wait till the remote comes and hope I can get it to hook up to PC via ethernet. Don't know why its not showing up in attached devices, but once I get into menus and get IP address I shall hopefully know more. Thanks for everyones help so far.
                  I shall be in touch!

                    try 192.168.0.202

if not that - when connected to router type arp -a after command prompt

or reflash with ifa an img which states its ip address

                      Hello!
Unfortunately, neither of those things works, but I can see where you are getting at with arp - tis a handy thing to know! Its almost as if Ethernet is switched of on the box (hope it isn't broken), but will hopefully know more tomorrow if the remote control arrives. Thanks everyone for your assistance!

                        Good evening.
Remote arrived. Put batteries in it. Half the buttons don't work. Got no HOME or 2, or 5. Managed to get IP information, trying to hook up to it now. Will keep you posted.. Just need to find out how to scan for channels...

                            No channels found..
No Null modem cable to hand and IFA refuses to connect without one. Press ok and it says waiting for dbox to start. Start it and nothing happens just goes from standby to on. Nothing. Stil Waiting to dbox to start.. Grrr Starting to remember why i left it with me dad..

You have still got the old sportster img on the box and now you know the ip address so use a flash program and connect to the box with crossover cable and see if you can first see the files on the box and then you can change the files needed
