You don't need null modem cable. Unplug the dbox. Run IFA, when it says "waiting for dbox" you THEN plug in the dbox.

I did that and it still didnt work
Fortunately however, I have managed to change the IP on the box (without the use of numbers 5 and 8 which don't work...) and successfully connected via FTP.

I have copied all the keys i could find into var/keys (?) and a bouquets.xml file into var/tuxbox/config/zapit. Pulled the plug and when I turn back on says "No channels found- scan needed" I connected again via FTP and the bouquets.xml is still in the right place.

I reload the list via services menu, and it says "no channels found".

I do a bruteforce (not fast) scan and it says ... you guessed it "no channels found"

What is likely to be wrong? services.xml? as i have moved 10 miles up the road, although still in same county but not changed this file.
Bouquets.xml? new one downloaded but dbox can't see it

Sorry to be a pain in the arse!

        DONE IT!
        HURRAH!
        All working fine.
The services.xml file already on the box was blank. Replaced it and all good.

Thank you everyone for all of your help!

Well it all looked lovely last night, but it was getting late, so only tried few channels S*y1, S*ySports1, and the FTA channels and worked fine
Put it on this evening and flicked thru the channels. Some of the channels listed on the services.xml are not working "Channel not found"
FTA is running fine eg bbc1 but the non-FTA are really jerky picture and sound cutting in and out every 1/2 second...
            Any suggestions?

Have just done a scan and found no channels, so have to copy services.xml back accross again.. *Sigh*..

Just when you think you have got it sorted. Should I try changing cams (whatever they are) as I've heard it might fix problems in some areas?

Northants. Not set any location, just put in services.xml and bouquets.xml from a zip file found on here somewhere for northants. Is that all I need to do?

No, you'll possibly need to put your net id, sym and then your frequency depending on the image that's you've got. Then when all that information has been put on your scan settings and saved you can scan.

If them bowks and services are for your area
                    Just ftp them to var/tuxbox/config/zappit
                    Unplug your box
                    And plug it back in
                    No need to rescan
Either that or transfer the files
                    And reload channel list
                    Hope it works ..................Paul

the reason some channels r not working is likely to be caused because the service file is quite old, there's been a lot of transponder switching recently.....set ur location and try a scan

Services file is quite old. Showing as 2005! Every time i do a scan i get no channels found and the services.xml is replaced with a 24 byte file with nothing in it!
Plus my stuttering has pretty much been put down to a crap splitter as direct feeds without the modem coming off seem to work much better, but still nothing found on scans Can't seem to find where to set my location on Sportster image, although i recieved today a remote control that works. Hurrah! I've tried flashing blad-quad on to the box just for fun, but it doesn't matter how many times i shut down/standby/restart/pull plug out and plug back in, the IFA still sits on "waiting for dbox to restart" So thats fu**ed that one. I am trying without null modem cable, so I'm not sure if that has any bearing on it. It shouldn't from what I've read, but there you go.

Now then setting location in sportster... back in a bit... unless anyone has up to date services from Northants?

What version of sporster is it as it might not have the setmylocation feature
if you have a crossover cable use flasfxp to ftp the image into the /tmp folder and use the dbox menu's to flash it nokia's are 2x image
                          dbox,service,image upgrade/backup or software update,expert functions
                          write one partition
                          flash without bootloader

Got blade quad on! Hurrah! Set my location, did a scan. Got no channels found. Also there is no "keys" folder in var, (is this normal with new image flash?) so i made one and copied keys over nagra, autoroll etc
But only FTA are working and still the channels all over the place.
Is there no-one here from northamptonshire with cables.xml and services.xml

Can't understand why i cant find anything on scan. Doing bruteforce slow scan and "no channels found"

Thanks a lot to everyone for your on going persistance in helping out a noob

                                Day 3! (?)
Still only FTA channels. Have wiped var/keys folder, and downloaded new_roms.rar and unzipped it and stuck back in var/keys. Fired up Sly Sp 2 (cos 1 isn't where it is supposed to be cos the services file is messed up) left for 5 mins, still nothing. Black screen. Scanning still brings up 0 channels. Looked up EMU's in the menu but only EVOCAMD listed. Guess it was included in blade image.
Think i'm gonna take a break with this before i throw it though the window..
