    Dbox1 - not dbox2

    OK, i have got a Dbox (not dbox2) today for ?6 (not bad). Unfortuanatly i thought it was a dbox2 (should have looked at it first but was so excited it was ?6 i just bought it). Anyways, I know these are usually worthless, but can i connect it to a UK Cable provider (NTL/Vigrin media) to get my usual channels? It says its a Dbox-C which i have read is the cable version as opposed to Dbox-S (satellite). It was setup with german channels, about 30 of them maybe. I tried connecting it to my existing cable line and ran a scan which gave me about 4 or 5 channels (which all appeared to be german names) but no picture, no sound and no info on them. Tried to connect it to my satellite dish (just in case it was a satellite version) and ran a scan. Came back with the same results (and the same channels). It has got the card built into it already and im not worried about having to use a funcard or about the keys changing each day, jsut want to test it for now.

    Also, do you know where i can get a new image for it (its got DVB2000 Beta 8) as I just wanna experiment with it. If not, what can I do with it other than bin it or just rest my feet on it?

    Cheers.

      Ah well, dont mind if its a satellite one. I got a couple of spare satellite dishes laying about. Whats the best satellite to point to and how do I set the box up? ie, which settings and where are they?

      Many thanks.

          Cable dbox1 uses a cam and card usually a fun to decrypt the channels....however there is no autoupdate - kys have to be added to the card img and reprogrammed after each roll.

          the cam is a multicam with amon chip.

          For scanning there is a UK scan enabled DVB2000 version on the market.
          Check first if you got a multicam with amon chip.
          Menu button -> 8 -> 4 Caminfo
          The software version is shown in the second line, the line under DVB2000.
          You can leave the menus via the TV button.

          cheers

            I done Menu>8>3>4 and it says:
            Code:
            DVB2000
            BV2.01D BETATV
            I saw on another forum when looking around that i may need to change from german to english firmware. Do you know where I can find this as everytime I look for something related to this box, i get dbox2 or dreambox come back at me.

                  I just read up on that, im used to it all being set on a dbox2 by just selecting your location - was hoping the uk version of the software would do that I tried mucking with them but it either says 'Err: no sig' or 'Err: nit empty' will go try again now with the ones you just gave me and see what happens. Thankies

                      411000 is 1 of the frequencies u need a dbox2 service file for the rest

                          never down 1 m8 only what i read.....press 6 on remote u should enter the sym rate 6952 but u put a zero in front 0695 then press 9 and add ur frequencies

                          from the dbox2 service.xml open in a txt editor and u will see groups of channels - at the top of each of these will be the frequencies listed in hz eg 411000000.....they may need to be added to dbox1 in khz 411000.....

                          eg
                          <cable name="Vi*rgin M*dia">

                          <channel service_id="1db1" name="4Music" service_type="01"/>
                          <channel service_id="1db2" name="The Music Factory" service_type="01"/>
                          <channel service_id="1db3" name="Virgin1" service_type="01"/>

                            Right, i got the file and wrote down all the frequencies. Tried them all and it always says 'Err: No sig'. Is there a way to hard reset the box back to DVB2000 defaults in case the previous owner messed with something? Or is there something else I can try?
