Picture constantly freezing and breaking up

Hi guys I've been having an issue with a eurovox 1000sl at my grandads home. The box is tested and working fine on another connection. It scan's and finds all the channels fine (did a fast and deep scan).

However every single channel is unwatchable, with most channels you cant even get a picture on others get a frame freeze pixilate and then freeze again etc. Yet the channel info says the signal strengh and power is ok.

There is a orignal VM NTL box there that works fine. The connection is split at the point where it comes into the property and has one feed going upstairs and one downstairs, I get the same results on both feeds (though the upstairs is slightly better).

Im planning replacing the splitter as the main feed comes in with another one but has anyone got any other suggestions?

Try the splitter as you said failing that post the signal strength, press info twice to view this also watch out for fluctuation i.e signal jumping around.

          Same here

I also have an EX1000 box. Last night I went upstairs and am getting the same audio/visual problems with the box.

Signal is fine but what I see on screen isnt.

All my cables are fine, I had a Virgin engineer hook me up last month with a whole fresh wireing on the house. all the lagit VM hardware works fine, just my eurovox thats having a problem.

...Seems strange that both our boxes gone funny on the same night. I am in the Greater Manchester area.

            Hi,

Had same problem, after much complaining to NTL they replaced cable from taphead to connection inside house. Problem solved. Their own boxes have netter caching memory and are much better at dealing with poor quality signal issues.

if your signal strength is 90% it is way too high (too high a signal gives as much problem as too low. optimum strength is around 80%
if you have the signal booster option turned on turn it off

try putting the cable feed into the rf out (not too sure if 1000sl has rf out) and see what you get

                        Sorted

                        FIXED.

Installed newer firmware from Feb 2009.

Once installed I went to my box, cleared data, reset to factory defaults, then did a deep scan, now all fine again.

Drefsab, you should try that also, see if it helps. JVBjunkieUK gave me that bit of advise that worked.

cool thanks for all the replies I will be going down to his today so will try it all then

I think I already had that firmware on (I only upgraded the firmware and put the box in about 2 weeks ago). But it might be worth trying to do it again.

Hi guys just gotten back sadly no joy with changing the splitter over, I even replaced the coax running from the brown box and that didnt help.

I checked the signal strengh's from the menu and the signal kept jumping from 82% to 2% to 85% to 12% etc, yet the NTL box doesnt do this at all. I even swapped the eurovox out with mine and that had the same issue.

                              Sorry to hear that

It may be that you need something like this:

DVB Junkie UK - The Premier DVB Specialist - K?nig ANT AMP-PRO30A Return Path (Active)

Though you may be able to get a unit like that at a lower cost else where from the usual places....everyones muched loved online auction house.
