Eurovox HD Ex700 - Cant get hard drive working

    Hi Guys,

I've formatted a 250GB Maxtor portable hard drive as Fat 32 and plugged it into my Eurovox HD box but it refuses to recognise it.

The Maxtor HD doesnt have it's own power supply and has to USB leads coming off it, I guess one is for power or something? Strange thing is, it works fine when I plug it into my laptop by just plugging one USB end in. Why does it have two???

Also, does anyone if you need to have a hard drive with an indepedent power supply for it to work on the Eurovox HD? If so can some recomned me a drive and setup. Either that or help me get mine working! ;-)

FYI - I had to format the drive as FAT32 using this program called SwissArmyKnife as Vista wouldnt format it into that file system as it didnt support it or something.

I found that the 7000 HD had problems recognizing my hard drive too.....

The solution I found was to create a folder called RECORDS. Then when I plugged in the drive it was instantly recognized...

I tried that but am still getting the error message "Usb Drive not attached". Quite annoying! Anyone any other ideas?

I think I have read somewhere that this box needs an externally powered drive. I am using a maxtor basics 500gb hdd which works well, apart from occasionally needing to reboot the box to get it to recognise the hdd.

I just bought a HDD off Ebay for ?26. Caddy is branded Sumvsion but HDD is 120gig Western Digital sata and worked on my EX7000 straight from the box.

Brand new with really fast post, paste this into yur browser
NEW 120GB 120 GB 2.5" EXTERNAL HARD DISK DRIVE USB 2.0! on eBay (end time 21-Sep-09 08:58:26 BST)

By the way, the 2 USB leads questionned in earlier post are in case you need extra power, this drive works without external power with only one USB connected.

I have no connection with this seller but they gave me a bargain so thought I'd tell someone!

Ok Ive now bought a Western Digital 250GB Passport drive and Im getting very similar problems. I've all the advice above and Im still getting the same error - GRRRRRRRRRR

I did actually get this one recognised for a short time and recording but all of a sudden the "USB drive not recognised" error message came up again and the drive started making a strange constant clicking noise. The only way I could get it back working again was by reformatting on my PC.

So, by the sounds of it the only way to get a HDD recorder working on this box is with an external drive caddy and regular computer hard drive. Can someone please send me a spec of something that defo works so I dont waste any more dosh!

                  Cheers

if the drive is clicking it is having read/write problems usually due to faulty drive.

Hi Stefan - I may give that a try as I formatted it on Vista using SwissKnife. What software did you format on XP?

use swissknife again - it's an xp program, not a vista program

That'll be right, swiss knife aint for vista. For vista I used EASEUS Partition Master 4.0 Home Edition which I downloaded from cnet.
