there is no firmware/update that will overcome n3 encryption.

yes if you want but you will still recieve channels 1-5 and a few others that remain unscrambled but for premium channels free tv is over.

why do you want the original firmware as it will do nothing more than any other firmware

Because I believe it will give some HD freeview channels, for example ITV1 BBC! Channel 4

I just wanted to try and just use it as a freeview HD box.

doesn't matter which firmware you put on the box you will get nothing different as to what you are getting now.
