Eurovox Max V Cable box BRICK !

I finally got my brick up and running when the clock showed up on the LCD and a bright red standby light ! I unplugged it and put it away in the box. I plugged it in to the mains again later and now i am back to square one , the dreaded two green : dots are back. Since then i have tried several times to flash again using JKEYS and SKYMAX 2 . I can communicate with the box with my LPT JTAG lead but get errors in both programs . Skymax 2.2 its basically writing on 2meg setting, then giving this error.

Any ideas?
I am going back to my friends house to put another power board into the box to see if that makes any difference when trying to JTAG the flash across . I am also beginning to think that this is not a genuine motherboard in the Eurovox max v ! Best wishes from mentorman !

Seen that before with a faulty PSU, try the other PSU and post back the results please.

Hi everyone , well i am still having no joy with this box ! Cannot shake off the old GREEN : dots . Went to a friends house and placed another PSU in the damn thing and still GREEN lights ?? I brought it back home and tried to Use Skymax 2.2 again and this shows my results :-

I tried using every bin file i have but still the same results as shown above !

Using JKEYS i can connect and it finds the STi5518MVB-X and i use the intel chip method . Everything goes according to the detailed instructions i follow but then any flash i try fails . The only thing i managed to do is read the FULL bios flash and saved it. If i go to write that back to the chip i get success ???????? So now i am out of ideas and looking for things to try if anyone has any solutions or had similar problems,please holler !

Hi McGeoff thx for sending me the zip file but it is not a full file archive and i cannot get it to open with winzip . Could you either send it again or RAR it up and i will be able to open it with winrar . Also can you explain in more detail what i am to do with this file ? Do you mean use Skymax on 2MB setting and upload it first , then use the MAX V 2008 2meg dump again using the 2 MB setting ? Many thanks mentorman !

Winrar will open it but you are already using the same TSOP file:

File : D:\eurovox jtag\Black Max V 10-9-7\Black Max V Full Dump 10-9-7.bin

Try the one mcgeoff gave you as you may have a corrupt bin file.

On another note:

The only thing i managed to do is read the FULL bios flash and saved it. If i go to write that back to the chip i get success ????????

If you are reading from the TSOP that has the bootloader wiped you are just putting it back on by the same one doing this.

Are you sure its a Max V?

Hi Satsmo , i cannot try the file mcgeoff sent to me as it is not the full file or it was corrupt on upload . I am waiting for a reply from him again to upload the flash he tried to send me or let me know where he downloaded it from ! I am not sure what he wants me to do with the file neither. Do i use JKEYS or SKYMAX to upload it using 1mb setting as it is only 967 kb i believe . I have the MAX V casing but i am not 100% sure what the board is . It has 2007 on the edge of it but cant be sure what i have. Beginning to think it has had another board put in as they are backward compatible so i here !

The file he linked you to is fine just unzip it with winzip, winrar or any other compression application. You need to use 2MB not 1MB. As said above its the same TSOP file that you are already using, but try it.

Just follow how you got it back the first time

Hi everyone , i have tried to download that Max 2008 zip file and i try to open it up with winzip and winrar and cannot . Could somebody send me any good firmware images to my email address which is as follows :-
removed email address believe me when i say i have tried Blue RED and Black images and no Joy ! I have tried on 1MB and 2MB settings in SKYMAX 2.2. I have posted the error messages either of RAM FAIL or Error writing ACK 00000100 etc . In JKEYS i can only flash the FULL bios as mentioned but as you say it will not have the bootloader in it ! I am thinking that this is some sort of clone board because i flashed it then turned it off. Then it went back to the green dots . This is what happens with Starview clones. They are fine and work ok until powered down , its that or i have a corrupt eeprom !!!!!!!?????????????? . Best wishes from Mentorman !
P.S i have another box here i am going to try , it powers up and the Standby red light comes on and the dreaded green lights are showing ! Wish me luck.
Satsmo , if i get the box up and running , how do i save the Full TSOP using JKEYS and then i can try and flash that to this BRICK . ??????????

Thanks again for your help Satsmo and for removing my email . That was out of desperation to get this box up and running. I just brought another MAX V to the house and got it up and running no problem . Used skymax on the 2MB setting and the box flashed no problem . I noticed the Flash went right across the bottom of the program as the progress bar in blue squares ! Because i was successful with that box i removed the PSU from that box and put it into my brick . Still green dots and no luck with flashing any BLUE RED or BLACK 2meg bin files ! I set it to the 2MB setting but the Flash would stop on 7FF00000 instead of FULL flash to 7FE00000 . This is part of the problem i am having with this eeprom (Damn Thing).I will now try these other TSOP that you have posted and see if i can get them to load successfully ! On the video it shows the programmer writing to the box on 1MB setting ? I will stick to the plan and try the 2MB setting . I still think this box is a very good clone as it has the maxV logo bottom centre front panel . The silver cover over the Scart connections has not got the sloping back neither . Anyway here i go on round 10 will post back again with my findings ok. Once again thanks for all the help i have got so far ! Mentorman

I actually bought it as faulty from a guy in my town. He has a shop that sells electrical stuff and satellite equipment etc. I knew it was faulty when i bought it but i needed a guinea pig to try out and it turns out to be a box from HELL . Just tried Skymax again with no luck . It always stops short at 7FF instead of 7FE ????????????? . JKEYS next .

Well i finally admitted defeat with this box as i have now managed to update two more boxes with the JTAG revival method and had full success . I have decided to hold a FUNERAL for the box this afternoon with tea and biscuits. I have advertised it as FAULTY on Fleabay and hope someone else can revive it ! Thanks to everyone who gave me input on this problem. At least i can pass on my experiences now to other folk in need ! I have now bought two more boxes to do but these have different boards and PSU in them. I cannot upload Kuro to them as they have got no reset button on the Motherboard ??? Bye 4 now Mentorman !

Devil for punishment. Regards the other box that you have now put up for sale as faulty, did you ever try a hard boot reflash?
