    Just ordered a eurovox 5000PVR and a 1000SL

Just ordered the above boxes from mycables.co.uk anyone used them are they any good?.1 is for the bedroom (the1000SL) and the 5000PVR with HDD for downstairs.

As I read it I will get the cables (null modem) are they different for each box or the same?. although I ordered a serial-USB adapter as I haven't got a serial port on my laptop.

I will try to do this all on my own but I may need some of your great help to get me through

After reading various threads I hope I have made a good choice.

My 5000PVR got delivered this morning. Like you I also ordered the serial to usb lead as my pc doesnt have a serial port.
So far the usb lead just wont work, Ive changed it to port 1 but still no response from the box.
I'm gonna have to buy a serial card to stick in the pc to get it working I reckon...

Have you loaded the drivers for the USB adapter?. Or you could try COM 3 instead.

Yes just use the firmware and instructions in the red stickies.

right click 'my computer' and goto properties
then click on hardware and then device manager
click on th eplus sign next to 'ports (com and lpt) and your usb to serial adaptor will be visible and it will tell you what com port it is set at
then in the flasher program set you com port accordingly.
              hope it helps

What make of USB adaptor is it? Try google, for e.g If I had bought for instance a belkin USB adaptor and it didn't come with the driver I would simply type in google search box,

" DRIVER SUPPORT BELKIN USB ADAPTOR" and then search throught the pages.

Have a look if you cant find it come back with the make/model of the adaptor and someone will try find it for you.

Its a logilink usb adaptor, actually found a cd with the package and tried the drivers on that, also went to there website for any updates, still no joy tho.

Hope that the serial card works when it arrives.

oh I've checked that the box aint a clone and its fine too.frustrating tho!!

I bought a serial pci card from maplins today and it updated the firmware straight away.

I'm having trouble with my serial card, installed supplied drivers, it was recognized but doesn't see the pvr 5000. Goodfella what port does yours use? I've tried a few of them but no joy. I've got vista 64 bit too.
