Virgin HD

i have been given a cisco virgin HD box. i have the basic subscription to Virgin. i put my smartcard from my standard box into the HD box, but it says the card does not match the box so wont show my subscribed channels.
can anyone help with this?

Each card is paired to its own box and they cannot be used in another box. The only way is to inform Virgin but they will charge you a subsciption for a second box.

The issue may be that you have been "given" a box.

Technically, virgin owns the boxes. No problem your card with a different box, but how can you explain to Virgin how you got the cisco box?

As above, your card can be paired to the cisco box, but virgin need the box details to re-pair and may ask where you got it from.

As you have been correctly advised, you cannot get this box you have been given to work but Virgin Media currently have an offer to replace old SD boxes with new HD boxes, activated for HD, for only the cost of delivery of the new box, ?20 one-off, no additional monthly charges.
