    cable box

i have been given a box but it has no name on it so i dont know where to start to flash it. it has a sti-5518 chip inside and a samsung tuner, on the front panel there are no buttons just a window about a inch across with a green led on it, it also has 9 small dents on the right spaced like 3 up and three across. it has also got a viewing card slot on the left hand side behind a drop down door, its about the size of a freeview box and it is silver in colour. anybody any ideas? your help is much appreciated, thanks in advance

if u hook it up and go into system info it might give us a clue what box it is,sat, cable and u dont need coaxial or sat cable to check just hook up scart andplug in unit.

all starviews have a name on left top of box
            starview 1 = starview
            starview 2 = the box
starview 3 = the box super
starview 4 = the box super usb

u can only view what ur provider gives u, the red button does not work as in no talkback so u cannot order what u want to see.

@mdt have you taken any pics of this box yet.. have a look at this link and see if it looks like your receiver, it does have the chipset you speak of but says nothing about the tuner make etc. Before we can progress this we need to decide what box you have..

the box Cable Receiver - Goodvb Technology Co.,Ltd Satellire Receiver

If it is not that one then please type in 'cable receiver' into google and then select 'images', go through the images until you find an image of the your box then come and advise us...

                              cable box

seeing as nobody seems to know what patch to put in this box, is there any way to put the keys in manually cos it has already been patched once before but i dont no how to get the key edit menu open. im presumeing that there is some kind of 4-digit number or some hidden menu. has anybody got any ideas concerning my question or is it just fit for the bin?
