Sky warned Irish Cable Companys to deal with piracy immediatly !

British Sky Broadcasting last week ordered UPC Ireland who own's Chorus Multichannel & NTL that if the various of pirate boxes running in Ireland at the moment are not switched to nagra 3 by kick off time in Premiership Saturday @ 12:45 that it will serve notice to all NTL & Chorus customers due to tv piracy...

    The statement went on :

British Sky Broadcast wILL stop all feeds of sky sports, sky movies on the NTL / Chorus network untill this problem is resolved. All NTL / Chours employees were briefed with this information late last weeks.....

Both Chorus and NTL have now started to introduce N3 across its networks starting monday 17th of this month, BSkyB are to monitor the situation and are adement they will stop feeds to the Irish Cable companys if piracy is not stopped satisfactorily.

    .................................................. .................................................. ...

From What I make of this statement is that Sky are now calling the shots with cable companys, switch to N3 or we switch you off ! If this is what has happened in the Repiblic of Ireland have Sky pulled the rug from under British Cable companys ?

If this is the case there could be a forced move by British Cable companys to do the same if Sky are waving the red cards ! in a very short time period .

As the bulk of Channels on Cable come from Sky's satellite platform, no cable company can afford NOT to do what they say ...

As far as I know Ofcom have all but ordered sky to make available it's premium channel range to VM and is currently in a 12 week consoltation period with sky before releasing a full report so lets hope that Ofcom enforces this line

Does this mean there might be a fix for Ireland or do you think there will ever be, cause i now have 3 boxes which are probably worthless now.

The reality of nagra 3 is that after many years of trying to hack it with some limited success (aparently some italians had some cable channels open for a limited time) it's not been hacked and to be honest I can't see it being in the near future.

                  IPTV...

some cable customers might object to this system..

Due to limitations in bandwidth, an IPTV channel is delivered to the user one at a time, as opposed to the traditional multiplexed delivery. Changing a channel requires requesting the head-end server to provide a different broadcast stream, much like VOD. Unfortunately, this enables the service provider to accurately track each and every programme watched and the duration of watching for each viewer. Due to doubt regarding the privacy laws governing IPTV, this represents a significant privacy risk.

not only is this an` iffy area` it is also another step towards monitoring every movement(cctv) internet downloading(IPS) and now what we watch (iptv),,,,

i think this could be an area where this technology might meet certain barriers and therefore slow or eliminate its activation.

plus we also have this issue>

Although a few countries have very high speed broadband-enabled populations, such as South Korea with 6 million homes benefiting from a minimum connection speed of 100Mbit/s, in other countries (such as the UK) legacy networks struggle to provide 3-5 Mbit/s[30] and so simultaneous provision to the home of TV channels, VOIP and Internet access may not be viable. The last mile delivery for IPTV usually has a bandwidth restriction that only allows a small number of TV channels – typically from one to three – to be delivered

                  and Nag method is here>

Well UPC did say at the start of the year that they planned to have the whole country running on Nagra 3 by the end of the third quarter so they are well behind schedule .

what difference does it really make ? if they switch to nag 3 they will lose customers at an alarming rate, sly are robably hoping that peeps would move to them . Personally if it happens i would not bother with either one .

Why would they will lose customers at an alarming rate ? Most people who use cable are living in Citys and town and can't put up a satellite dish on there place of residance !

Other live in rented rented accomodation where landlords do not allow external fixtures such as Satellite dishs...

And the rest know nothing about Satellite tv and think SKY is the only way to enjoy multichannel television when infact there is at least one big satellite provider in every European country broadcasting the same films & Sports as do Sky ! Ireland are about the only country in Europe without its own Satellite platform because RTE like to keep in with Sky because they get Free carrage on the Astra 2 Satellite ....

If RTE had got a kick up the ass years ago Ireland could have had its own satellite service with many different channels for the entire country by now ... and customers would not have had to pay so much for a service like SKY ..60+ euro a month and in the UK even with the convertion rate its still cheaper than a ROI subscriber and they get internet and telephone service included.
