Sorry mate, i'm not using a router, i have just added the DK1.1 image to my dreambox through an rs232 cable and re-connected my dreambox to my tv and going through your guide that way.

Can this only be done through a router then ?

I do have a router but its not setup.....

Well it's so much easier through a router,as you will find it's a lot quicker than using a null modem cable on a serial interface.

Can you set the router up,all it needs is plugging in, no real set up required..is the router you have wireless or not ? i use wireless much much easier..

Does the Dreambox need to be connected to the router through an ethernet cable or is the dreambox wireless enabled...

What is the best setup to do this....

This is really simple then we will have you up and running soon, Connect the DM500C into the router and try installing the DK1.1 Addon update again.

You are getting there !!
Just to Clarify, The DM500C is not wireless enabled...once you connect the DM500C to your router you will able to download and update straight from the DM500C via the DK1.1 image.

Ok you really do need the router working in order to simplify things,the DM500C connected via a ethernet cable should be plug and play ...
Turn router off and reboot DM500C,turn router on..what router do you have ?

Scrap that......I have managed to get the router working....

but do i now need a 3rd ethernet cable to connect my dreambox to the router.

As i have used my only 2 cables connecting the router, modem and pc together

All you need is the DM500C connected to the router, to attempt the plugin addon install.
You can always unplug it after you have the update.

Modem to Router
DM500C to Router,as you don't have another cable to connect the pc to the router,leave it unplugged and plug back in after you get the update..

ok, how would update the DM 500 if there is no internet going to the pc

BTW my computer an tv are nowhere near each other...........could this be the problem

Ok i understand, You will not need the pc to do the update as it's all done from the DM500C,so you can unplug the pc, you will however need to connect your DM500C to your router and obviously the modem too.
You will need also to connect your DM500C to your TV so you can see what you are doing.
Is this making any sense ? or am i confusing you

Makes perfect sense now mate, only my dilemma is, my tv is over the other side of the room from my PC so i have no way of connecting all of them together......;DOH

I can't even move my modem etc as when virgin installed it, my modem wire is just enough length to reach the pc......
