    Help for the needy

Hi. As a newcomer to the site I would like to say how impressed I am with the knowledge that the vast amount of members seem to have. However some of us have purchased a piece of equipment (which suddenly does not work) and realise how much technical information we are lacking to maintain the equipment.

Personally my issue was with a Eurovox box. I purchased it, connected it up and hey presto I had television. Over the last few days like thousands of others the problems started. Thanks to this site I have downloaded keymaster, found how to transfer the codes into the box, and even learnt that the remote does more than change channels.

Over the last few days I have spent hours on this site trolling though the different forums trying to understand what measures I need to take to increase my knowledge of this piece of equipment. Resulting in my desktop having up to a dozen windows open.

I am now trying to prepare myself for ?THE FIX? when it comes. At the moment I have not got a clue what I will need to do to install ?THE FIX? on my box other than I will have to connect the box to my PC. To prepare for this I have purchased what I believe to be the correct cable. Until ?THE FIX? arrives I will try and troll the site for information on what I will need to do to download the program and ?Flash?? it on to my box.

My point to this thread, please be patient with us newcomers some of us were not born with a laptop in one hand and a digibox in the other, we all have to learn. What comes easy to one person can be a chore to another. I will surely be needing some help over the next few days to get my box up and running and hope you will assist me with the downloading and installation of ?THE FIX?. I understand the frustration of some members who think a newcomer can visit the site and within five minutes walk away with a step to step guide to solve all their digi problems. However I think SELF HELP is the only way to learn, but, please a bit of guidance from the more knowledgeable is very much appreciated.

Hazy and buster to my mind you have almost cracked it - you have read and now have more knowledge than what you started with. Thats how (nearly) all of us start. Lots of excellent guys on this site so you will be helped dont worry about that. All the info you require is in the eurovox section.

What you will need though is a null modem cable so go to that well known auction site and by one for a couple of quid. After that all you need is the software if and when it is released (if its a vox 1 or 2) download dnupman the downloader that you will require. If its the blue or red model the s`ware comes pre-loaded into the loader.

Aye, if you do end up doing something wrong and killing your box, don't panic too much, as you can reflash it (Well, I did my dreambox with a null modem cable when I killed it)

So should be the same for other types of boxes.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong though.

but aye, you're right, the best way to learn is to just have a dabble with it and see what stuff does. They can take a while to get used to (had mine a year and I am still a bit clueless sometimes)
