VM are slowly moving most transducers from QAM64 modulation to QAM256. Unfortunately this scheme requires signal levels to be in a much narrower acceptance range which seems to be causing problems for those that already have marginal signal levels. Even VM's own boxes are affected by this problem.
If this is the problem then the only things to try are either signal attenuation (if its too high) or signal amplification (if its too low). The downside of this is that it tends to introduce noise which can lead to a lower quality signal thus causing more problems of the same type.Comment

You have to be careful using numbers generated from most boxes. At best they are extremely unreliable. One box can say one thing whilst another seemingly identical box can say something entirely different. There's absolulutely no attempt at calibration on these 'informational' displays.
Bit error rate (BER) display can give more trend information than pure (mostly arbitary) signal power levels but even these can vary significantly due to tuner tolerance spreads during manufacture. The plain fact of the matter is that one box may not function on a particular marginal signal whilst the very next one off the production line may work perfectly well.Last edited by TheCoder; 10 January, 2013, 00:35.Comment

Its still the same -
NetId - 40967 (a007) - Network Name - Preston 1
The default frequency may of changed from the old days though. Its now on 411Mhz, 64QAM, symbol rate=6952000. The area has had the QAM256 upgrade so most other transducers have already switched to QAM256.Comment
