Would someone like to clarify how server maintenance would affect which channels would be down on the kryptview box, I fail to see how this would cause particular channels to go off, now I'll admit I'm no expert, but I feel confident in claiming if Kryptveiw are running a number of full package servers, then there is no way their server would influence particular channels going off, they pay for a full package card and share, the only possible issue regarding particular channels going off would have to be from the supplier end, if anyone knows different I'd like to hear your thoughts.

your box is connected to a live cable feed, this brings in the picture
your kv box also connects to their server for permission to view the channels
so if their server is offline then you box wont work -
Yes, but the box does work on some channels, therefore the server is NOT offline, the permissions to watch are on the card, therefore if the card is active and full package, and server is on, there is no possible reason for channels to be missing !'If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. You are only guessing that they had a lot of full package n3 cards, however it is they most likely they have also been using modded cards from an nagra1 area as well on their server. It is my understanding that doing this will clear the channels even in an area that has seemingly already made the transition to n3.
This is because in most if not all areas VM have been running using simulcrypt (n1 & n3 simultaneously) It makes the monthly running costs of the server less expensive to have been doing this. Now though that is not the case as obviously some if not all of the areas where the modded n1 cards being used have went off and the guys who run the server have had to juggle things around and increase the package levels on the n3 boxes that they do have in order to appease the masses.Last edited by gadgetfiend; 30 September, 2010, 11:39.Comment

Thats exactly my point, if they are using cards on the server from nag1, and they get turned off, those boxes are no better than the dm500c, all is not well in the world of Kryptveiw !You are only guessing that they had a lot of full package n3 cards, however it is they most likely they have also been using modded cards from an nagra1 area as well on their server. If for example it were you that was running the KV server, correct me if im wrong but surely you would want to keep running costs to a minimum for as long as you possibly could.Comment

I fail to understand what you mean ! Or what relevance your comment has to the topic ! Server maintenance would have nothing to do with missing channels unless all channels were missing !'If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.'

For some reason you're not getting it, if the servers are being upgraded due to changes by the cc in certain areas regardless of the reason, then by all intents and purposes it is maintenance is it not. If they just left it and did nothing they would not be maintaining their servers and people would be without the channels previously being served from former nag1 areas. Fortunately for kv owners this is not the case and everyone now has their channels back.
Also to their credit they managed to do it without taking the servers offline and bringing all the channels down so why is that a bad thing ?Last edited by gadgetfiend; 1 October, 2010, 09:51.Comment

Sorry gadget, but I'm not sure your getting it ! I'm not here to flame Krypt, my query's are for the purpose of knowledge, and so far no one has come up with an answer as to why only certain channels are going off their servers, they would have no control over what channels are output through the server, only in regard to what the package contains ! Now I may be wrong on that point, and if I am, would some kind soul care to enlighten me. I don't feel there is enough info regarding these boxes and have an inkling they are using cards from nag1 areas on their servers, and as these are slowly disappearing so are the channels from the krypt/starveiw boxes.
On that point, I do hope I am a million miles out, and it doesn't really effect me as I have sat, I would just advise anyone intending on purchasing one of these boxes either to hang fire until all areas are switched over or a much better option, look into sat systems, I'm genuinely concerned some people may get their fingers burnt and that's one thing I don't wish to see !'If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.'

I understand what your saying but tbh m8 this is the kryptview section of the forum and not the sat section, nobody wants anyone to get their fingers burnt but the history of this hobby has shown us you'll get more longevity from a box if you get on the bandwagon early and not wait until the wheels are falling off it. Yes there are sat options but their not for everybody and their not without their own ups and downs either. Ok that aside my understanding of how these systems work is similar to cccam but not exactly the same, for a basic example they set up a UK based upload cardserver for either each individual bouquet or each transponder (after recent problems i suspect the latter) and cache the key to overseas distribution servers. The customers box then gets the key from the cache, not the card. So if for example there is a modded card in a UK based upload server in an n1 area and it goes down, then certain channels will only go down not all of them. Then they have to juggle things around to sort things out. To me its perfectly feasible that this is what happened.Last edited by gadgetfiend; 1 October, 2010, 13:47.Comment

or virgin are turning off the cards there using ?any information provided is for educational/experimental purposes only.Comment

Now that would be worrying but i think the fact it happened just as a certain area went n3 is the more realistic scenario.Comment

That is my concern, that they maybe don't have nag3 cards on the servers and when the switch over is complete in all areas, everyone is left high and dry, certainly if you were in say Leeds who were one of the 1st to go and you got a box, then your lucky and have got your ??? worth, but if it is the case they have nag3 on the c/s then fair play and good luck !'If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. i think it would have been very good guesswork for them to have predicted which areas will be last to go to nag3. I have no doubt they that they have nag3 cards on their server, as mentioned it obviously made financial sense for them to use the n1 upload servers especially for expensive standalone channels like racing uk and pron.Comment
