could someone explain something to me please. i installed the starview 6/7 firmware on my HD combo lan found here...
Digital Kaos - Downloads - Latest Bin File For Starview 6 & 7
my box works and i can watch the white coloured channels but not the yellow. i guess the yellow ones are the scrambled channels? anyways, i was wondering why my box will not connect to the server? i mean surely the decryption method is the same as the 6 and 7? is there anything i can tweak to get this to work?

    thanks.

      Hi

Nope, that file is for sv6 and sv7 only. There has been no release of firmware that will make the combo work at the moment. Not on cable side anyway.

          Hi

You can use the combo on the sat side.

i'll look into that if there isn't a cable fix sometime soon.
with sat is there anyway to get all of the channels without paying at all?

and just outta curiosity, in theory would the server that the 6&7 connect to decrypt the channels on the HD combo? im no expert but i do know people that can write software. so basically what im asking is, if i took the server connection bit of the software and added it to the current HD combo firmware, would it work?
like i said, i dont have a great understanding but i know people that do.

              Hi

With sat you would have to pay for c/s. I think a lot of people are getting fed up waiting for a fix to materialise and are turning to sat side with their combo.

As for wether you can use the sv6/7 server on the combo I couldnt answer but if it was as easy as that then Im sure a fix would have been released by now.

ok thats something i wont bother doing, id rather get a new secondhand 6 or 7 and chance it. why are there no free sky servers like the starview cable one?

the only reason i queried that is because i dont know much about who makes the firmware. i assumed people were waiting on starview and no one had bothered to have a look themselves.

                  Hi

No free servers cos it costs , on cable side its not really free but is included in sale of box as a "gift". The running of server is part of the price when you buy box be it sv or kv.

By providing "free" server or "gift" as Ive put it, it generated a lot of sales for sv and kv therfore recuperating server costs and their firmware made the boxes almost plug and play unlike on sat side you got to do a bit more.

The thing is us with the hd boxes bought them to use on cable side with the extra benefit of hd.My box has another 8 months left were as some sv6 boxes had very little time left if any.So i think the powers to be should get them up and running again unless as a lot of people are saying they are only in it for a quick buck and couldnt give a dam about us with the hd boxes even though they cost twice as mutch. And yes i no they can go to the sat side but that is not the issue here.
