If they are not offering HD, then obviously will be cheaper but still cost a great deal to setup. Then there is the risks involved. IMO, anyone setting up a totally free server for SV boxes either has more money than sense or is not offering it to the public, just a few testers as an experimental project.
Not sure if any truth in it

He's more right than wrong.
Probably not 30 subs, but 20+.
And there are very few ppl in the Uk who can pull RSA, etc off HD boxes and that doesn't come cheap.
Putting BGA back is also very skilled job when done properly (not with jig)
I am getting misquoted on a number of occasions now, maybe my posting style is becoming a bit confusing or my reply to Alex is misread? If they are not offering HD, then obviously will be cheaper but still cost a great deal to setup. I was replying in reference to a trader's angle on looking at this form of sharing. My point though was, yes it costs money to run a commercial share as a lot of time and investment is required, but why is it purely looked at from that perspective?
I am not about to get into the semantics of commercial V hobby as that is a whole other thread, (one which would probably be of more value than what we have had of late).
On most STBs the BGA will have to be removed and reattached. This entails quite a bit of work inclusive of re-balling and reading. The software for reading the block will have to be attained but that's obviously possible given the logic that it is available to many, (there are services available outside of the UK also), but there are more than a few "lads" in the UK.
Obviously if you have better tools the labour is less intensive but the cost of purchasing the tools adds to the cost so a catch22 of course, but not 1Ks work to attain 1 RSA. And if by chance you had an old DT08 STB and knew the N1 BK then I am sure to convert it would cost a few quid at most.
Of course this means a lot of reading and trawling for quite a while. Maybe a few dead boxes, a lot of headaches and a smaller bank account but at least you gave it a try
CS is a workaround but a very valuable one from a commercial viewpoint, but it's been carried out at a smaller level by those with time and interest.
I can guarantee that what I have said will not make any difference to those that want free TV, but I thought a longer post was merited given as I may have generalised on the last.Last edited by satsmo; 18 June, 2011, 19:25.I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer. - Douglas AdamsComment

I know a few ppl who have unfortunately had the job done by butchers only for the board to be returned looking like a hot iron has been left sat on it.
Spend your ? wisely
