Missing and scrambled channels Starview 7

    Hi eveyone,

Im an absolute newb to all of this so bear with me! Was given this SV7 box as a gift from my cousin who also mentioned that he will pay a fee per month (which im guessing is what you call subs). For the first month i couldnt get many channels and was scanning for the life of me. Then one day i removed the ethernet cable, began to scan and reinserted it........ this worked and i had all the channels!!

Untill recently, all the movie channels have gone which boggled me so i decided to rescan using auto search which was a mistake as it made it worse (back to square one). I tried the ethernet cable trick and nothing happened, each time i scanned i exited and entered 1819 and still nothing.

Im not clued up on the QAM and frequency which i think may be the problem (i dont know tbh).

I will update later with what QAM is it (im 99% sure its 64).

I have rebooted the box, factory reset the box, rebooted the modem and rescanned loadsa times and nothing has made a difference

My ISP is V****n, im located in worcestershire and my setup is this:

cable into a splitter -> one into a modem and the other into the box. The ethernet cable is in port 1 and goes into the box, the are both next to each other too.

Am i able to still scan if i removed the splitter and just have the main white cable into the box? this means i wont have internet untill i put the splitter in and i though the box runs off the internet?

Hope you guys can help me.

    Thanks

Without asking my cousin (hes on holiday at the moment) how would i find that out?

My expiry date is october this year and i do get the odd movie channel but missing like 8, when i rescan i probably get the one i was looking for but missing others.

I doubt that im not subbed, i think they box is just playing up. I have been reading through here and noticed something about torrents. I have been downloading crap this weekend as well but that is only between 12am and 7am which is off peak and not when im actually watching TV.

      Could that affect it?

      Thanks

Yes downloading torrents will affect it and if its saying october then you are subbed, can you try it at a m8s house just as a process of elimination..............

How do i clear or solve whatever downloading the torrents has caused? Just reboot the modem?

Most of my mates/family are on adsl and not cable <_<

What else can i do to remedy it? Am i on the right qam? I keep reading 256 is where the channels are but i get nothing on there, just 64

          Thanks for the reply.

your box does not get channels from the internet, it uses the coax feed from vm to get the channels, and you should get around 17 fta channels like bbc1 and itv with no internet connected, proving it works off the coax feed. the internet is required for the sub that allows decoding of the scrambled channels

when searching for channels you dont need the ethernet cable in, just a coaxial cable from the splitter

search on the correct provider, either 6887 (the old n*l) or 6952 for the other old providers before VM

qam is set to 64 , and short channel name set to OFF

if your signal and quality levels are good then it should scan in all the channels, but if there is a fault or they have lowered your signal level then it will cause missing channels as not all will be scanned in. your router and internet may be unaffected by this but tv channels are as they require a better signal

an internal problem with splitter or cables can also cause this, as can wifi signals or dect phones nearby too

so it may be worth scanning on the direct coax feed, then put the splitter back afterwards

hope that explains the basics of it

^ Thanks for explaining that, was very helpful

I will try and scan without the cable tonight when im back home...... not sure what provider i have been scanning on but will have a go on both.

              6952 (looks familiar)
              64
              Channel off

              Gotcha

              Thanks again for the help.
