Do you know where I would get the older software version from? How do you download it?

Does anyone want to buy the box?

How often have the roll overs been going on - every day, twice a day or more?

So does that mean you can load your new one with any update?

          Hi,

The IP9000 is a twin tuner box with internal hard drive but it is Linux based and is High Definition.
The cheapest place I could find it was from SatEuropa for ?466 delivered.
A lot more than I wanted to spend but the reviews for it seem to say it is a an awesome box and the fact that I can send all my .avi files to it and watch them sold me to it.
They do a smaller box the Ip900HD which is the same but only single tuner and records onto an external hard drive for a round ?300.
Going even cheaper are ITGate, Dreambox etc, basically if it is Linux based then when anything changes (as with the starviews now) instead of needing the company to write a specific firmware for that box, anyne with the knowledge can rewrite the software to get it up and running again, hence all the linux boxes are up and running while Eurovox, Starview etc have had to and are astill in somecases waiting for a fix to be released.

          All the best,
          Paul

            Hi,

Sorry missed this question, you can get the firmware from-

4shared - free file sharing and storage - share folder - My 4shared

Double click 'TheBoxPvr' then click on the folder 'Firmware' and download the file 4.506 15thOct, this is the last decent firmware.
Unzip that file and you will have a .bin file, going from memory you then conect the box to your computer via usb, your hard drive in the box will then be shown on your pc as a removable disc, there will be a folder on that hard drive called firmware, drag the bin file across to that folder.
Turn off the pvr box then turn it back on and then go to hard drive in the menu, select update firmware from hdd and let it do its thing.
You will still have to manually enter keys when they change but at least you will have a better firmware in my opinion.
If you find you don't like the firmware you can always go back up to beta one you are using now.

As for how often the keys change, over the last week or 2 it has been as much as a few times a day but as of the 30th the keys haven't changed so looks like things may have settled back down again and they may change once a week, once a month, no one knows.

            Hope this helps,
            Paul.

                Hi Wolves4eva,

The new firmware for the older Starview 2 was just released so it looks a little more promising of a PVR firmware fix, still no guarantees but at least they are still giving some support to the older units.
'If' a PVR fix does come out, as soon as I have tried it I will post here to let you know if it is working or not.

                All the best,
                Paul.

                      Who is trying to sell?
Just trying to work out if that post was aimed at me, surely not given that I have offered you nothing but advice and information I have purely from personal experience.
Given that I am the one in this post that has mentioned numerous types of boxes I assume you saw that as a sales pitch rather than what is actually was.....a list of Linux boxes that reviews seem to rate as being worth the money and future proof.

Just to clarify, I am an Engineer working with cars, have never sold a box and have no interest in boosting the sales or directly selling anything......unless you want your car converting to LPG in which case I'll gladly sell an LPG conversion ;-)

                      Paul.

                        Hi Jimmy,

Unfortunately all of the Starviews from what I am aware now have firmware that comes up with the screen saying 'TheBox'
I did notice however a good thread on here where someone had posted pictures of all the different Starview boxes so you could maybe see on that thread wich version you have?

                        Hope this helps,
                        Paul.

                          Paul,
                          No no no no......

Not getting at you at all
I am very greatful for all of your genuine advice
This is more at some of the other threads, there seem to be people on here who are great but some who lead you astray!

Very happy with the majority....all help very happily received.

                          Cheers

                            Hi Wolves4eva,

No problem mate, I thought maybe you had taken my list of available boxes as a sales pitch ;-)
Still waiting on my new purchase so cannot advise further on using a Linux box compared to the likes of Starview, Eurovox, owever as stated If/When they release a fix for the PVR I will let you know how I get on.
                            Cheers,
                            Paul.

                                Firmware

                                Volvo

This is probably a silly question....If firmware is loaded does that allow number rolls to automatically update? So if older firmware is loaded that means no automatic updates possible?

Or are the number rolls automatically updated in another way?

From a very fed up wolves4eva (after QPR result)

                                cheers
