No channel editor available if you are running the very latest firmware yet....

The usb will be easier for me, I will do the studying, but can you point me in the right direction.
Is there a guide for this?
will a Vista business OS laptop work?
will my channels need sorting again? do I need to factory reset and re-scan?

I wanna thank you Dell-xps for your input, I have read most of your posts and have found them very accurate and informative. Also a lot of others have excellent advice. The whole site has been a godsend for my starview problems.....
once I have sorted out this box, I will study again for my dbox2 nokia which has gone down a while ago.

Your Vista notebook will just see it as an removable drive, browse to the firmware folder on the removable drive, put the bin file in there, let it transfer across.
Now go into the menu of the starview box, scroll to the hard disc, and install software, click ok and thats you sorted.
Do a factory reset, rescan your channels, this firmware puts them in order, remember to put the code on and the emu on.
Read my earlier post to stop getting the installation screen every time you boot your box.
Cheers for the comments m8, appreciated.
