    boycott starview recievers

I reckon everyone should boycott starview and leave them well clear, If they ain't going to support starview 1 & 2 now, whats gonna happen with starview 3 & 4 in the near future when they release newer models,

think everyone should stick to open source boxes , i.e dreambox or dbox2

a bit harsh there mate...... ok I understand that people with starview 1 & 2 will be pi$$ed, but they're only trying to make a bit of cash? Surely that isn't a crime? The starview 1 was a solid bit of kit, and was fairly priced on it's release. Folk can't say they haven't had their moneys worth......

I agree with you mate. Was thinking of upgrading my Starview2 but I'll probably be in the same situation next year. The only people who will end up loosing out is Starview !!

I understand what your saying mate , I've seen this happen now for quite a few years and with these boxes, same as buying these bogus cards on satelite, you take your chances, but the company who makes them hasn't grown a pair of balls to say " sorry folks, we're not updating these boxes"
I really hope they do update them as starview have got a really good rep at the moment for the easy use and quality of their boxes but people will steer clear if there is no support , it's a natural progression for keeping away from bad unsupported boxes and staying with the good,

look for example the dbox2 and dm500c, I know they're open source but they're still going after years because of the support, If starview don't want to update these boxes , then either make the code and sell it for a price which they will still make loads of money as people will pay for it , or just release the code

Fair play mate, I get what your saying..... and your right, the uncertainty isn't helping anyone. If a fix is/isn't being written, then they should let people know the score for defo. Your idea for charging for a firmware upgrade just wouldn't work tho, as soon as one person had it, it'd be distributed all over the shop for free anyway. Hence the reason (I think anyway), that support for these boxes will be at an end....... Although, I hope I'm wrong......

Nobody knows, If everyone knew then 90% of the people asking, " is there a new firmware yet ? " will stop , I really hope there is for everybody

I have 2 boxes, both Starviews models 2 and 3, great piece of kit, I have had the 2 for 12 months at least, never missed a beat kept on a ticking, when other boxes got zapped. Recent aquisition was the 3, only to find the 4 was out a month or two later.
My 3 is now up and running, I will replace the 2 if an upgrade is not pushed out. But will hang fire on a new purchase, "just in case"
It did cross my mind to go with another box manufacturer BUT what is the support like from them ?
My brother has a Eurovox, which has been "zapped" since thursday but he is away at the moment and cant let me know the status of an upgrade.
I would have *HOPED* that an upgrade would have been forthcoming, BUT I fear the worst now. To much time has passed.

If you look at the Eurovox section there is a fix for their boxes.
I had a Staview 2 and reccomended it to loads of people (wish I hadnt), they have had their boxes for about a year and the support it seems to have ceased, it seems all other manufacturers are supporting thir boxes. So I definately wont be reccomending anything Starview to anyone ever again, even if they provide a fix.
My only mistake was to keep the starview PVR which wasnt cheap. Anyway if there is a fix I would reccomend people to sell thie Starview products and get a 500c, you will be so much better off in the long run

                    Hi All
My starview 2 is just 12 months old ....but regardless of age Starview should provide a fix just for cutomer relations ...people will vote with there feet ...Looking at the pattern next time it will be 3 and 4 that wont get the fixes ...Thats really bad Starview

Does anyone know for sure if there will be a fix for Starview 1 and 2. I have one myself and have recommended it loads of time.

If SV1 and 2 are not going to be support now, then chances are the 3 and 4, and possibly future release will have a short life. This will lead to a sales decrease in those boxes and increase in the open source ones.

I wish I could say "Long live Starview", but the future is not bright and clear, so who knows...

Does anyone know if we can send email to the relevant programmer/developer of starview to get them to do the latest fix? or could we do an online petition or anything to get our message across.

Then post on all forums to get the support.

Personally I dont think you can do anything, its a one way thing, What do you petition I have a dodgy box, and cant get an upgrade off the manufacturer ?

The only thing you can hope for is a bit of goodwill, if it aint forthcoming, vote with you feet, but a different brand, which gives restrospective support to previous kit.
(Maybe it becomes a two way thing then eh ?)

I have no issue over upgrading if I have to, but in view of the support issues it will NOT be a starview. (and like others I have recommended them countless times)

Them ball is firmly in the starview co`s court at the moment, but I do feel in view of the time past a decision NOT to support has already been made.

Ah 5cr3w it. I'm gonna replace it with one of those open source linux boxes.

Was really hoping for a fix. I'd recommend any future potential buyers to stay well clear of Starview, even though these are decent boxes. If this is their attitude to stop supporting older models then what are the chances of support being holted on current supported and future models?

I am really gutted. If there were any fixes for version 1 and 2, it would've been out by now.

Sales will decline, for sure. The balls will no longer be in their court.

Hasn't this been a long time coming for SV1 & clone boxes? The word back in April was that the Sunrise fix would be the final offering.

Definitely seems time to jump ship from SV and buy a better supported box.
