I've had a starview for over a year - needed another box and decided to stay away from Starview. Got a Eurovox MaxV - THATS a good bit of kit! Yes they got zapped but the recent upgrade that came out has sorted that and literally took 5mins per box!

I've had nothing but problems with my starview - saying that i've only JUST got into the whole reflashing thing so im really hoping if/when I reflash the box it proves me wrong!

I'm still trying to figure out what version my Starview is before I reflash it..

        Please help me decide

Which box would people recommend, that is:

        - Easy to use
        - Easy to flash
        - Updates/fixes/patch support is available
        - Good and loads of support community
        - Reliable
        - Doesn't cost the earth

Quite a wishlist! I know HD supported box are expensive. If there are cheaper boxes that support HD then please let me know.

        Thanks.

I just don't get it at all. I have sv 1 and 2 boxes - one now has a fix and as a previous post rightly pointed out, I can pick up the new codes within half an hour of the changes so the sv1 isn't going to be suddenly made redundant either...
some of you guys who were moaning should remember there are lots of people around here who give a lot of their time and energy to helping you out - and ponder for a sec just how much a yearly subscription costs. Surely the smile must come back to your faces then... Unbelievable !!!
Do you really think anyone would buy their product if it wasnt fully supported. Its the makers of the box that write the code for Starview since its closed source. You make out as they are doing us a huge favour. Lets face it if they dont support their product no one will buy it, especially since there is so much competition out there. The least they can do is support their products since people have paid for it knowing what it can do. Open source boxes are kindly supported by the community with no money involved.
I foolishly purchased a Starview PVR for a lot of money, its riddled with bugs and so it was promised by Starview to be rectified but it never was. I stupidly also reccomended The Box to loads of people. Their boxes are about 8-10 months old so if it is possible for the boxes to be updateable there should be no exuse. I could understand them not supporting their product if they were not able to because the ecm was not fixable but the last ecm was pretty easy to rectify so in my view Starview have no exuse to support ALL their products regardless of age.
I for one have lost all confidence in them.
Stick to open Source boxes and you will be a lot better off in the longrun. Look at the D2box it been working well for years and years

I would personally recommend an itgate! got an tgm 220 with 250gb harddrive and as easy to use as a euro etc when need flashing/key updates etc just plug into router and internet update from remote control in seconds, the support is second to none and as is a linux box the skys the limit! when the eurovox's, starviews etc go down for good these will be the ones still running. i keep mine connected to router at all times the web interface is excellent can change channels, plan recordings, stream data from my laptop and download skins, and plugins like total football etc, these really are the next generation boxes and the support is first class due to having a forum dedicated to this box, anyway thats my opinion but whatever you choose make sure its linux if not an itgate then a dreambox, wouldnt go for dbox2 now as are like 8+ years old and have failing tuners etc, hope it helps!
