    mick.
Wood pigeons are grey, they have white on their kneck and wings.. their chest is pinkish..

With the bird being young we wont be able to tell what type of bird it is until its at least 6 months old..

Pigeon urine causes problems to buildings which is why defra see's them as virmin. The health risk is minimal.

wetdog, if your reffering to me as abusing you, i wasnt and didnt mean it to come across this way, but i just also beleive everything deserves a chance no matter what it is,
theres too many people out there who would just kill it, but its good having people out there who do things like this , it may be a risk regarding viruses, disease or infections , but shouldnt it be up to that individual to make that decision???? i think it should.

They are nothing more than flying rats. They carry all kinds of disease and nasties. You are in danger of picking up a resporitry disease by handling/being close to it.

I am not cruel or an animal hater. It's just fact.

"kill it" is not a great contribution

if your some kind of keyboard hero who knows nothing about the subject, but just likes to jump on the band wagon and abuse someone, then up yours.
if your some one knowlegable about the subject, and i dont mean david attenborough, then post away with answers that will benefit 'walter'(the pigeon).
i dont kill everything as suggested, only people who pointed guns at me. i dont run round the countryside at weekends smearing myself in sparrow blood and eating raw wildlife.
what i said is factually correct, do some research.

wood pigeons are probably what you are getting mixed up with. feral pigeons are flying rats.

          enjoy your non sustantiated abuse.

          mick.
I'm by no means a "tree hugger", but I do have profound respect for all life, even "flying rats". This pigeon getting eaten alive by a cat may have been the mechanics of nature at play, but it was also preventable and unnecessary - the cat is better fed than I am!

The pigeon seems fairly content and not overly stressed. It was foraging in my back garden earlier, quite happily eating small insects and morsels of random debris. I'm curious, what other "pigeon skills" advantage non-random-irish-bloke-reared pigeons besides the "skill" of rummaging through litter for food? Campfire building and rabbit skinning perhaps?

Since you've also righteously advised the rest of us not to post unless we're credibly versed on the issue, perhaps you could let us all know what you're own credentials are? You know, the ones that qualify you to caution me on this deadly disease carrying vermin so authoritatively?

The health risk posed to a human by a single young pigeon is negligible. I appreciate you taking the time to reply to my original question, but you seem to have some pretty misguided, exaggerated views on these creatures, not to mention a deluded faith in your own advice. I think you need to consider a new source for your "facts"

I'm sorry if this comes across as indignant, but I don't think "kill it!" should be considered a valid response to ANY question.
