not card meters, they are dry meters, and a brand new build house. well i say brand new, maybe a couple of years old.

there was a debt on both metres when i moved in but i had it successfully removed and then, to be on the safe side ( and at the persistance of them ~~~~ers knocking my door ) i also switched suppliers to E-on

whereabouts on british gas's site does it tell you what people in your area are paying ?

Its ok, I found it, it allows you to put your postcode in etc and it tells you what the average user is paying in my postcode, and guess what, its near enough exact spot on to what I am paying give or take 1 or 2quid, so looks like that is the correct prices and I am an average user.

Prices dont include the new price increases which are just about to kick in right "NOW" for all companies, so that will be another ?16 per month onto my bill which I simply cannot afford to pay and I phoned them and told them that next months bill I will be in debt for sure as I just do not have the funds to cover it, its either Eat or use lekky and gas and I know that I cant do without either.

Things are getting desperate now !

I am still amazed at how some people are saying that they are only paying approx ?60 per month for both gas and electric combined ?

To me they are either miscalculating thier payments and will end up in debt (like i have done in the past accidentally), or they cant be in the house much, or they must be sitting in the house just with a fridge and a tv switched on and thats it, because if you are using all the other mod cons then you will be paying much more than ?60 per month, fact ! it is litrally impossible to keep your bills so low unless your doing what I have mentioned earlier in this post a few lines up, hmmmm, leaves me stumpped ???

Then theres the new price increases that are going to be put on all companies roundabout now which I think is about 20% extra and also the coming winter, I am not just baseing this on summer payments, I am basing it on monthly constant direct debit payment.

              makes me wonder ?

mate, can you tell us more about what type of equipment you use in the house, electrical appliances to tv's, computers etc and how long you spend in the house etc, your bill is amazingly cheap and thats why I am trying to figure out why is it so cheap ?

                      Yes Saltire.

Im not working so spend most of my time indoors, If the 42" plasma aint running then the pc defo is, as you can tell by the time of this post i am active with leccy till about 3am.

I have gas central heating and cook using gas, I struggle to keep my place warm in the winter because of the high ceilings, I do try to not use the bath , I go to the gym most days and use their hot water, on an evening i always switch off lights when leaving a room, its a myth about it costing more to switch on lights rather than keep them running.

But yeah, my tv/sky box/xbox gets hammered as does my pc and gas for cooking.

Check out uswitch, im sure you can get cheaper gas n leccy, British gas are the most expensive supplier in the universe mate.

dunno if thats too true about british gas being the most expensive mate, I am on the websaver 11 tarriff which is thier cheapest tarrif and is always 6% cheaper than thier standard tarrif plus i pay buy direct debit = cheaper + ebilling = cheaper and Im a dual fuel customer with them which also makes it cheaper.

I have over the the years switched from company to company and sometimes the end result is more expensive in the long run, and the one major mistake I made one time was to think I was paying enough as that was what was the set price at the time and little did I realise that I wasnt paying anywhere near enough and was infact in serious debt, that was my own fault for not giving regular meter readings and not paying the real true higher amount that I should have been to cover the costs and I ended up in serious sh*t man.

All I know is that the new price increases are right across the board for all companies, makes my bill ?16 per month more expensive and I still dont even know if what I am paying just now will be enough to cover the winter payments as they tend to be much higher usages etc as you know.

I have a few friends who are paying more than me and they are with different companies.

I think all in all people are just not noticing the HUGE price hikes in fuel we have had over the past few years compared to the years before, and that maybe some people are under estimating thier amount they should be paying and will fall into that same trap as me years ago by being in debt when they didnt even know.

But if like some people in here and yourself are 100% correct on everything then you sure are getting much much cheaper gas and electric than we are, i could see the point if it was a few pounds cheaper etc but when you start to say ?50 cheaper per month and things like that it is very hard to believe although I dont doubt you for one minute, but I still cant see british gas being that much more expensive.

edit : > i see your with atlantic, what tarriff and what way do you pay and all that, please fill me in with the info.

                        cheers mate

Just tried uswitch website and entered in my details.

Only one company showing cheaper and thats Npower and the only saving over a year is ?21 , so that is not even worth bothering with, all the rest are much more expensive. hmmmmm.

Just got a letter through from Atlantic.

Electric up by 11% and gas up 18% from the end of September.

                            Bugger.

to be honest my bills are fairly small in relation to these posted
in fact some of these would be using more than double what i would for a quarter than i would in 6 months
im roughly ?120to ?130 a quarter for both
roughly what Baldy Bob is paying
but im seldom home to be honest and only got the computer/lights/washing machine and kettle and mostly heating combi boiler for washing ect
                                and soldering equipment sometimes

i am living in a 1 bedroom downstairs 4 in a block in an archaic old miners houses hard to heat in winter

but to add so much of a percentage to these bills is baffling especially at the autumn ready to kick in for winter

i really feel it for the pensioners to be honest
but gonna be tough for families already stretched to the limit
                                people with smaller kids especially

hopefully folk can find acceptable ways of cutting the energy bills
but ?18 on the ?100 for gas and ?11 on the ?100 for the leccy is gonna take some serious cutting back on consumption for most

wouldn't like to tell a couple of teenagers to save ..you might be in for mutiny
