government work is also processed abroad. however civil servants cant tell anyone due to signing the official secrets act. as i left that government post a few yrs ago i can now say that
government privitised national savings staff to siemens (recently they sold out to atos so that tells you how much atos are making from the govenment)
siemens then started off shoring back office work to india. this was about 7 yrs ago. so if you buy a national savings product - premium bonds etc the paperwork is scanned and actually processed in india!! the mistakes that used to come back were horrendous the most being postcodes. people would phone up and complain and we had to fix the error and never let on it was acutally processed in india.

there is now talk of other government back office work moving abroad but the official line will always be to deny this.

Most of them get around the 'out of country' processing by having the offshhore employees logging in via UK based terminal servers. That way they can say the data hasn't left the country. Total crock of sh*t since the data must have left to be displayed on the terminal server client screen. However they can stilll say that the database, of whatever form, has not left the country to be worked upon.

There are a few Organisations within the NHS that do this. *shrug*

Despite the cost of living, it's still very popular.

Would depend where the terminal server is held. If its in the UK then technically its never left. As you log onto a UK based server then it should be ok.

may be in the UK but its still being accessed from there, is it really that sensible to put that much trust in to another country with any of our top data?

You cannot trust the UK call centres either, data is sold from UK call centres all the time. Stop blaming everything on the Indians.

If i want to blame something on someone else then I shall. I said other countries there i never mentioned India.

Yes stealing from call centres happens here as well but I would trust a call centre here a lot more than a country that is in poverty and trust my bank details with someone who gets a fair wage than someone who is paid pennies!

Then you know nothing about data selling. It happens the world over, and because people are paid a wage dont stop them from selling stuff to the papers.

I bet you all read about the call centre in Wales that was doing the swine flu stuff, with people rolling joints and being drunk? Well that was sold by one of the employees that worked there. He was paid ?5000 for the video, and story. While he wasn't selling customer details, he was selling information from a call centre. So it happens everywhere.

If you dont want your bank details being sent abroad, then I would start keeping all your money under the bed, because all banks have off shore workers with access to your details
