Because the time dimension is space-time that means that the time machine is also a space craft. So therefore i would use it to visit the stars.
Visiting the past is too risky, one miss step and you could come back too find a world ruled by meerkats, the future has its problems too.
One question though is how fast does it travel, what do i need to pack. Because if i travel to the past or future and need supplies i could just stop and get some, however if i travel to the stars and need supplies i am probably in trouble.

There is an argument that goes along the following lines....

If you go back to change something in the past, it effects the future.

But the past has already happened, so any changes have already been accounted for. You couldn't go back & kill Hitler, as he didn't die until the bunker... you could try but it would fail. You may of given von Stauffenberg the bomb to kill Hitler, but it was supposed to go in his car, not the Wolfsschanze.

Hate to rain on everyones parades, but you could only go back to the first point a time machine was invented. You cannot go back further in time, you can only go forward. Stephen Hawking taught us that.

was always of the notion that time is the 4th dimension, and as such travelling THROUGH it has no effect on the other THREE dimension... if this theory holds water, then the 3rd dimensional time machine construction wil have no bearing on your travel.
