if it was a mainstream school it would probably be dealt with more severely, but it should still not be tolerated in any schools, i personally think spitting on someone is really not on, as patkins says its vile

but a suppose when your wife took on her job she would know the risks that go with it,
take me hat off, to anyone who works with mentally ill, learning differculty's, and disabled people, cos am sure its a job i couldn't do

at the same time, and i'll probably get jumped on for saying this, but it can't be easy for the people with the mental illnesses who just want to be normal and feel accepted who are in no or very little control of their actions or unable to express their feelings.

They probably feel embarrassed and ashamed with themselves after doing these things, but their powerless to how they can communicate with others.

Things like adhd can be conrolled with drugs, and i think its the parents responsibilty to get their kids on these prescribed drugs to calm them down, because when they do lash out it is extremely forceful, and with quite a power behind it, especially for a kid!

And as for the people who are patient enough to work with people with mental health issues then they do deserve far much more money than they are on.

Most people with acute mental illness don't accept they have a problem, to them, there delusions are very real, if they are sat in front of a TV and they are having a conversation with a news reader, they genuinely believe the news readers are talking to them directly, so if they attack a member of staff because the voices in there head are telling to do so, they have no remorse whats so ever, because they believe they are doing the right thing, these patients have my full sympathy because they are not in control of there actions,
but when you get a pedophile who wont have a bath or shower, then demands to go out into the community, and you refuse his request because they stink, then they spit in your face, they are the ones you want to kick ten colours out of.
some patients know what there doing, some don't, some are mad, and some are bad, I would rather work with the mad ones any day, even though there are very dangerously unpredictable.
the saddest part of working in mental hospitals are the women's units, around 70% of them are in there because they were sexually abused as a child, and as a result start to self harm, I have had to deal with 4 suicides in the last 5 years, they are not a nice place to be.

The cynic in me often wonders how many diagnosed cases of ADHD are genuine neurological disorders, and how many are simply down to lazy parenting and ill-disciplined little horrors.

Personally, I'd have head butted the bastard but that's down to my own character flaws.

For those like me who come into this type of work a bit later in life ... its down to a really personal experience that changes your perspective and values ... if you can see past the illness its really rewarding work.

Exactly m8, if we get new staff in, the best advice you can give them is to see the illness before the person.

i personally find it appalling that in this day and age we put up with that kind of behaviour. people should not be allowed to threaten or intimidate anyone no matter what health condition they have. yes a lot of it is bad parenting. my b/f works with 14 to 18 yr olds that have been chucked out of school or who have came to his company as they dont get benefit till they are 18. most cant read and write and have behavioural problems which he just doesnt tolerate. it does amaze me that you learn to read and write in primary school but when they leave secondary school all of a sudden they cant read and write etc. id keep them in school till they can.

is there an answer to it i dont know.

That sums up my thoughts on ADHD.

Not sure I'd head butt him, but he would be unconcious before he hit the floor.

All part of the job lager- Thats why it takes a special kind of person to do these types of jobs. My mate works with autistic adults in a special home and hes been battered black and blue, nose broken and broken arms too. He loves the job and his clients too and gets paid an absolute pittence. As i said a special kind of person.
