I sent them an email last year, my house faces south. Only reply I got is "we're not planning anything in your area at this time"... followed by some spam from other companies. However unsure what happens when you go sell your house, for instance if the buyers don't want the panels on their house... might get messy.

Yes they put solar panels on your roof for free they keep any excess electricity you generate some up free electric put not an investment incidentally npower charge ?99 to fit solar panels only on a south facing roof again no payback on energy generated onto grid

so what if your main part of the roof is south east facing and would get the full light for half of the day and then a bit less later in the day ??

Just the same as a totally south facing roof doesnt get the light the full day either, it loses it in the earlier parts and later parts of the day, solar picks up light though even if its not facing the sun as we all know.

            edit :

smirnoff. that link doesnt work mate, not for me anyways ?

You will get it for free. They will get the feed in tariff, and you will get free electricity when the panels are producing.

it is worth doing, however, you need to get some convenents on your contract with them for roof repairs, maintenance costs and who your supplier is.

don't go for the free panels, pay for them yourself and get the government feed-in tariff yourself. I looked into it and although I haven't do the maths myself (so I can't verify it) the general consensus is that you get a return of around 9-10% on your initial outlay. Translated this means that it'll be cheaper to get a loan and pay for the installation yourself (unless you've got bad credit and get a shit rate of course). If you go for the free ones, the deal seems to be that your bill stays the same, i.e. doesn't go up, but they keep all the profits.

You are right in what you are saying, if you have the cash it is worth paying yourself and taking the F.I.T. This changed and went down drastically in December 2011 so it does not have as much payback as it used to.

You will get free electricity, so in general your bill will go down. You need to change your usage habits, i.e. use washing machines, hoover, irons etc during the day, and when the sun is producing.

Dont ever buy into the whole Solar panel thing.. too expensive and they aren't all that they're cracked up to be money saving wise.

I agree with flyingpig. People don't really know the way power works, they think once their panels are installed thats it, and it will save them a fortune.

If you live alone and get by with just some regular TV/games console use once in a while, then you may see a good return. But if you're a normal family with say 3 kids with having 2 or 3 TVs, PC's or game consoles on each day, then there's little or no return. High power devices will eat up all that energy in no time, with microwaves, cookers, tumble dryers, ironing, hoovering etc... Solar panels are useless for day to day usage of those kinds of high powered devices. They're only really good for lighting and some general usage of high power devices

Every one always pictures the future with homes having Solar panels or Wind turbines and power grids on Nuclear Fusion reactors as the way forward and energy of the future....The "Super Conductor" is the future of energy. infinitely better, something that generates infinte energy almost indefinitely with no reliance on source product...

On a side note, there was a Aussie guy(electrical engineer) who made a device. It was like a wind turbine but with no propeller. So worked the same way only with magnets and generated a lot of energy once put into swing and lasted for more than a year without needing to be touched. Just constantly generating(like a wind turbine at full whack) And it could be kept in your garage etc... But it was wrote off by some Physics guy. He said it could not generate the kind of energy claimed, but the maker still claims it does and can prove it... There are vids on Youtube

If that guy is right, then 2 or 3 of his devices powering 3 different batteries, all linked to different High or low power outlet sources in your house. That would be more feasible and prob half the price to install instead of useless Solar panels

Solar roof panels you should not have them fitted.

these companies where installing the panels for free and claimimg a subsidy from the government.

the arse has fallen out of it now as the government has drastically reduced the subsidies, making it not worth while anymore.
Blow for home owners as Government halves solar panel payments - Telegraph

if you live in scotland then the compnies that offer this service will porbely not be interested in you any more.
in England, the solar panel compamies can claim the money direct from goverment.
in Scotland now, the customer has to claim the subsidy from the government and hand it over to the solar panel company.. (so if the customer moves house, dies or just doesnt hand over money, then there could be a problem for the companies)
