I think we need more armed police but not every one of them armed. As for the point of armed police being within 20 mins of anywhere.....................Noooooo. During the night time you will be lucky if there is a single police officer available on the street never mind an armed officer.
If you want to know the truth of Policing in the UK then I would suggest reading one of these books ..... Perverting the Course of Justice....Wasting Police Time..... and Wasting More Police Time.
The insight this will give you into how the police is run and how the officers on the street feel about things will open your eyes.

Er! i think it will ,2nd ammendment or not, arm all officers and the criminals will do the same, do you think they'll take the law into account ??

When Tasers were introduced it was specifically stated that they would only be used in place of a firearm...

Of course they are now often used outside that definition because plod finds it easier to taser first and answer questions later...

Give them all guns, and it's only a short step to routinely hearing "stop or I shoot"...for whatever reason!

Personally I'd like to see more armed response units out there. But you can't arm all police with firearms, that would be like giving me a gun & a badge... Look out chavs, Dredd has arrived.

But I do think tasers should be given to all officers. They should be used in any situation where the risk of injury to the officers or members of the public is high.

So instead of seeing all those inebriated tosspots being wrestled to the ground by five officers on tv. We'll see the same dumb ****'s being zapped by two officers. Allowing the other three to continue doing their job elsewhere.

And what sort of people do you think they would be shouting "Stop or I'll Shoot" at ?
Certainly not your normal run of the mill ordinary man/woman in the street.

The Tomlinson case really pi**** me off for many reasons, that cop went out his way to throw an innocent man to the ground who posed no immediate danger.
Ok he may have been drunk and a bit of a pain, but what happens if every plod is armed and come up against a drunk who is a pain?
"Yes your honour, he was carrying what looked to be a kebab shaped gun".
Lets face it, we have all been drunk at some point in our lives and maybe resisted a little but it goes to a whole new level when a cop points a gun in your face and says "don't move".

A couple of years ago Dumbarton had gangs running riot in our town centre, they owned the street at one point.
One Sat night the riot team from Glasgow came down and wiped the lot out, all of them got lifted without a gun in sight..
A would hate to think what would have happened if a few neds had overpowered an armed copper and got his gun, it would have turned into the O.K. Coral.

The day Britain arm its police will be a sad day and a step backward for our society..

Some interesting figures quoted for deaths in Police custody but does anyone have the causes of these deaths ? Was it drug related, previous injuries, suicide, Police murdering them ?

I'm not looking for a bun fight just proper stats as opposed to select data published in papers. I once read that thousands of people die in hospitals every year. You've got to keep your eyes on those Doctors.
