    Surely thrifty are liable then

If he used a false name he was not insured to drive their car.

Thrifty are guilty of neglicence imo as they should not allow a person to drive away a vehicle without checking his details

did he not show his photocard license and counterpart to get car or did he used forged?
The way I'm reading this thread is - someone legitimately hired the car from thrifty and it was stolen from them but not reported to the police for 2 hours, in that timeframe the person that nicked it crashed it ?

Too many questions not answered by OP

who reported it stolen to the police? thrifty or hire person ?

How did they know who was driving?

            Where was the car found?

If it was hired by a legitimate then stolen from them how did they have keys?

Surely the person would of known before 2 hours to report it stolen.

If we get a response from the OP it may shed some more light but from his post it seems to me like it was hired by a person

who then caused all the bother and then said it was stolen from him and he was not driving to avoid any repercusions from the law

That's how I would read it, given the rather confusing original post.
