'Thanks' or 'Like/Unlike' or Both? Please Vote!

    Hi folks,

A question that's cropped up a few times is... Why do we have a thanks button and a like button?

Is a fair enough question so I thought I'd put it to a vote to see what you all thought. I'll leave the poll open for 7 days and whatever the outcome, that's what we'll have.

    Thanks

If any think a "dislike" button.

If you think it is a good post then just press "Thanks" - what about a "Thanksssss" button?

Yet if you disapprove of a comment it would be 'nice' to show you dislike that post

Me personally, i think a dislike/unlike button would be a bad idea. It would just get abused and would cause all kind of problems.

I think having both makes more logical sense, as much as i dislike the idea of a like button.. For instance, gmb posts something really helpful .. but seriously, the members who it has helped can thank it, and people who appreciate the fact that he has helped could like it.. or im talking out my arse.. i often do.
          Fave replies from various threads

1: What the fff is all that about??? All that crap below your reply I mean, get a life mate
2: no info on google abt the pace sv5 rang asda they have no idea what i was talking about,
3: Your total contribution to this forum, bordering on trolling, seems to have been a collection of snipes, one liners & asterisked expletives

If there had been a "like" and a "thanks" button I would have pressed both for this thread.

i think both would be a good idea people IN general would hit a LIKE to a post or thread in general browsing kind of way or someone personaly saying THANKS that has helped me sort of thing if you get what i mean

I'm for both (same reasons as shady ) am against having a dislike button though ... just leads to failings out in the long run

If the post was usefull like getting some help the thanks button would be more oppropiate if the post was a funny joke for example the like button would suffice , so " both " should get the vote , regards

I also think that we should have both buttons. They are used for different reasons.

If a post has been helpful in some way, then "Thanks" is appropriate. If you agree with an opinion, then "Like" is appropriate.

unless i'm wrong you can have 1000 likes added to your posts but don't show up, yet 1000 people pressing your 'thankss' button will show up

Is that necessarily a bad thing?

If used correctly, a post that is thanked, means that it has been useful or informative in solving a problem.

A post that is liked, usually means that another poster has simply agreed with that posters opinions, so (IMO) shouldn't show on their public profile.
