Hi, What type of fishing will you do. River, canal or commercial carp fisheries? There are hundreds of poles for sale so you need to ensure you get the right one for the job.

They call poles rods in the UK. Used to do some sea fishing, that is too easy. Had to give up fishing in lakes etc. I needed a corridor train to get back home.

I did not know that. I thought pole was what an american called a rod.

                  What is the difference?

a pole is exclusively used in coarse fishing and requires some skill.it may not be everyones cup of tea but having tried it once or twice i can thouroughly reccomend it.go on try it.dont knock it.

I do not know what your budget is for a new pole but be aware you can pay from ?100 to thousands of pounds for a top model. There are several makers who do a reliable budget pole such as Maver. Shakespear, and Browning.

My suggestion would be to go to your local tackle shop and seek their advice. If you let them know your budget they will fix you up.

Get the longest pole you can afford, you may not use it's full length for some time but there wil come a time when you will need that extra few feet.

Don't be afraid to barter in the tackle shop as they are feeling the pinch the same as us all. Extra top sections are always a usefull bargaining tool and make sure the dealer elasticates them for you.

Hope this info helps but it is almost impossible to suggest a certain make and length of pole without understanding the persons fishing abilities.

if your gonna take up Carp fishing i would suggest get a couple of carp rods, a pole is ok for smaller carp, but there is some big carp out there that would be no good on the pole. Even todays hydro elastic would make it almost impossible pulling in a 20lb Carp in.

Took me about 30 mins to pull a 6lb Carp in on the pole, but i lose the big ones on the pole.

Also bear in mind , in windy conditions its hard work on the pole.

I used to use BadgerInternational ( cheap fishing tackle shop ) but i cant access their web page right now unless its shut down.

                              The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.
