I would have to say no to this it would end with the poor having to fight and the rich getting out off it,i do agree some think has to be done just dont think this is a good thing.

I've no trouble with you disagreeing with it Tornado, but I would ask that you have a read of the Bill as it does show that it is not like National Service of the 50's and in fact is probably more likened to a Social Service and is not intended to supply the Armed Forces with cheap "cannon fodder" as the likelyhood of any of those conscripted being sent on front line duty is minimal.
It is basically a tool to take up some of the unemployed and teach them work ethics and also to teach some of the other youngsters about discipline, respect and self esteem.
Also, it is only for 1 year of service.

Well I hope your right, however nothing by la bore or tory cons have this far helped the youngsters much?

The Politician that came up with the idea was on the radio today. His idea is for everyone regardless how rich you are. There will be a few exemptions for the disabled etc. The military side was only a small option. It was more about working in the communities or for charities. Even helping overseas. His idea was to make people from all walks of life mix to cut down on segregation etc. It would also lead to tax and benefits if completed.

Personaly I think its a good idea in principle as some do need dragged out of their beds in the morning or to get experience of working with other people from different back grounds. It'll also give them life skills they wouldn't get. Too many people go to school then Uni and onto a job without seeing what it's like in the real world then moan about how hard their job is.

I think its a great idea. It would turn a ned into a nedette within 12 weeks basic training. Also they would gain some qualifications whilst being paid for it.

My only worry would be that The jeremy kyle show would end and all the young pramfaces would have nothing to do in the daytime.

Ive said national service should be brought in since i served in the armed forces beacause not only didi i see a big change in myself at 16 year old but i have seen it in others too.

Definitely the way to go.

Chip shop sales would go up as people would be more likely to enter without the neds hanging around outside.

Maybe im reading it wrong i dont see anywhere where it says its for the bums lazy lot the teens that dont work,now i have 3 kids from 16 to 21 none off them have ever hung out around street corners shops etc 2 off them work one is in 6 form and they would have to do this and mix with the scum that were dragged up with no manners rude etc etc,if u want to sort this country out u need a government with some balls stop hand outs u want dole pay some tax first kick the ones out that should not be here make these companies pay the right tax deport the ones that are wanted else where for crimes with out it taking ten years give the police some powers stop tying there hands behind there backs.lets say your kid goes out and takes someone mobile the mum or dad should get done for it as well just as bad,If u want to move to the uk u should have atleast 10,000 pound only be able to rent private no dole have med insurance and not been in any trouble.Sort that then i sign it.

Good idea imo, i holiday regular in Turkey and their young lads all seem to do a bit of service and they seem to enjoy it it turns them into men

It seems to give a respect as well as giving them a purpose any kids dont mature until they leave school. i hope they do it and i would be happy for it too come in soon my lads are 14 and 15 and i think it would help them a lot

Tornado, I have 3 kids (1 at Uni) that would be eligible at the moment and I like to think I have brought them up right, but I'm sure it would do them more good than harm.
I would also like to see a lot of the things you have stated be the criteria it this country, but it isn't and at least Philip Hollobone MP has had the guts to propose this Bill which I see as a start. He is a Conservative MP and I have never voted Tory in my life and have always considered myself working class and have been a Union Rep in the past, but I support him in this idea and have contacted him and told him my views and background and he has been excellent with me and I feel that his intentions with the Bill are as he has stated in the Bill.
Just to answer TheRed, yeah I know the amount of signatures so far is pretty paltry but I have never done anything like this before and I am not particularly active on Social Networking sites, so I am struggling in getting things of the ground quickly. That is one of the reasons I have asked anyone who supports the idea to sign and then please post the link on any of the sites they use.
I have joined Facebook to try and get something going on there but having never used it or Twitter before I am again struggling. I have even joined a Horse and Hound forum to try and get support !!!
I won't give up and will keep going until I get a breakthrough !!!

The good thing is there is another petition sponsored by some liberals opposing the bill. What they're too stupid to realise is; if their petition gets over 100,000 votes the Bill gets 3 hours of discussion in Parliament meaning he can still put his point across.

Sounds like a cover up for the failed political attempt to increase territorial forces while reducing the rest of the armed forces to me. The added benefit being that when Dave the warmonger finally gets his way and attacks any country then he has a group in the armed forces who are very expendable and therefore it won't matter if they die. He'd have sent them into Syria with no evidence of chemical weapon attacks if he'd had his way. The added benefit being that it would reduce unemployment in one foul swoop and if they don't make it back they won't be looking to be a burden on the state. *shrug*
